A Thrilling Racing Game With ATV's! Very Fun to Play, Has Excellent Graphic's

Written: Jul 29 '09 (Updated Jul 31 '09)
Pros:Very fun, great graphics
Cons:No Cons
The Bottom Line: This is a really fun ATV game, I recommend this game for people that like ATV and racing games.

Quick Summary
Pure is a excellent ATV racing game, very intense, has great graphics, great sound, and has great game play. If your into graphics then this would be a great game to play. The graphics are awesome, not many new games have this good as graphics. There are many races to choose from as well as racers. You must complete challenges to unlock parts, and proceed to the next level. This is a very fun racing game to play. It provides lots of fun and has good replay value. If you want a good ATV game that is close to the Need For Speed games, as far as unlocking things, and proceeding in the game, then this would be it.

Graphics

The graphics in Pure are really good, the terrain and landscaping look great. Mountains and hills look very real for a 360 game. I have to say that the graphics in Pure was definitely one of there top priorities. The grass, water, and shrubs all look great as well, there is even some small buildings here and there that appear to be very old. All of the terrain acts like it would in real life, as far as the terrain and environment they did a great job.

The tracks and the environment of the tracks both look very good. The track changes from wet, to dry in a realistic fashion. The track is very detailed you can see where the previous racers went, because you can see there tracks. When your doing huge specials a special visual mode starts. As your doing your trick the screen goes slow motion, similar to what It's like in the movies, it shows your rider doing a cool trick and you can also see the mountains, as your way high in the air.

The sky looks very realistic to the clouds change while your racing, not staying the same like much racing games. I have not noticed any blotches in the graphics. The game and graphics both run very smooth together. There is no respond delay for any of the graphics.

The ATV's look great as well, there are many options to do with them. There are multiple visuals that you can put on your ATV's. The ATV's look realistic, the ATV's look great and interact with the driver. When going down a windy turn you can see your ATV, lean from side to side. Overall the graphics look great on this game I'm giving Pure a 9/10 for graphics.

Sound

Pure has a descent sound tract to it you wont find yourself muting the sound right away, but eventually it does get old. There are all sorts of environment sounds. You can hear the wind and dirt on the track flying around, but mostly you hear your ATV. The ATV has very good sound to it. You can really hear the difference when the RPMS are really high, it can get pretty loud. There is no sound delay that I have experienced. Overall the sound is pretty good, but could be better I'll give the sound a 8/10

Controls and Combos and Tricks

The controls in Pure are pretty simple and easy to get the hang of. The triggers are your gas and break controls. Your 4 letter buttons are different tricks that you can do, except the B button. This is the turbo button. The pads on top control special moves that you can do once you get enough boost. The thumb sticks is how you control your ATV, but you can also manually change them. Getting the hang of turns, and doing tricks take a little bit of time to get used to. You wont get the hang of it right off the bat but it wont take to long. By holding own on the right stick you can preload your ATV for a big jump. The controls are pretty simple and easy to use, I will give the controls a 9/10

Combos are very important in the game, this is your source of boost. You do combos by doing multiple tricks within a certain time. If you go so many seconds without doing a trick your multiplier dies and you get your score. You can keep the multiplier going by doing small tricks in between big tricks. When your going for high points you need to switch up some big tricks, then do some small fast tricks to keep your multiplier going. In order to unlock your tricks you must do a certain amount of smaller tricks.

First you must do some small A tricks. These are simple and quick to do. After you do several A tricks you unlock the B tricks. Do some of these and unlock the Y. After you do several bigger tricks you get the specials, you use these by the pads on top of the controller. You press the top button move your joystick to a direction and watch your rider do a huge trick. You can see where your at on the tricks and boost by a meter bar. However if you use boost during this it will take your meter down. Making you have to start all over if you use all your turbo.

Customization

There are many options when it comes to customizing your ATV. The most important is the class types of the engine. There are 4 classes depending on far in the game you are. Then there's your engine, trany, breaks, tires, handle bar, and everything in between. You can also get upgraded parts as you unlock them in the game. These are upgrades that you can choose from a list when you beat certain races. They are upgraded or let you customize the stat bar.

There are 5 main stats for your ATV. Acceleration, this is how fast your ATV will go. Max speed, this determines how fast your ATV can go. handling, this determines how your ATV handles in mud, snow, and going around corners. Boost determines how powerful or how long your boost will last. Freestyle, determines how fast you can do tricks on your ATV. The higher the stat, the faster you can preform tricks for a high multiplier.

There is also many Visual feature for you to choose from. They cover everything form main body, handle bars, all the way down to your brake pads. There is also styles that you can choose from. You can put some kind of art work instead of a color.

Game Play

There are multiple things to do on pure. For the most part It's racing. You have a menu to choose from so your not driving to your next race. The mane mode is your career, here you can choose which class, race type, and map to race on. There is a garage where you can add on new unlocked parts for your ATV. These include performance parts form engines to brakes. There is also custom visuals that you can put on your ATV. There is also a free mode to practice on track your having trouble with.

There are three types of races you can do. First there is Race, this is when you race your opponents in a multiple laps on a longer track. This is for the person that prefers the longer races. You usually race against 15 other racers for multiple laps. There is also freestyle, these are race that you must do tricks to win. Your points on your tricks is what tallies the score. The bigger combos you do the more points you earn. You cannot win by finishing first as if you were racing. This is my favorite race to do, the freestyle is very fun. Then there is Sprint, this is a shorter map with lots of laps, making this short lapped race. You must race in 5 laps, these consist of little laps that require your acceleration to win.

The racing is very fun there is a lot of jumps and turns o interact with, you must also interact with other racers as they may push you off the edge. The game responds very well to your controls with no delays. I have not seen any glitches or lagging in the graphics but there are some glitches in the game play area. Sometimes you might get really close to a ledge or objects that normally fly once you hit them. But sometimes, you will be doing fine, the next moment your stuck on something that you can not see. This only happens in certain spots, when you get the hang of Pure you'll know where not to go. One bad thing is the fact of how many maps there is. As you progress threw the classes you keep playing on some of the same tracks you've been playing. They do add new tracks but they needed to add some more to Pure.

What I thought

I thought that Pure was a very good game. Me and my friends had a lot of fun playing this. The biggest downfall is that It's a one person game unless your racing people on line. They really needed to add a multi player mode. Other than that the racing was pretty realistic, as far as how it would react in the environment your racing in. The graphics were awesome, a lot of my friends have complimented the graphics in this game. When your doing a huge jump in the air it is really fun, the graphics and trick that you are doing looks really cool. Pure has a really good relay value to it. I have had it for months and I still pull it out once in a while. This is good for those people that get very angry at video games. For the person that's more into the violent racing you better move on.

Recommendations

If you like ATV's or racing games that aren't to hard then you will like pure. this would be a good game for a child or a college student. Or if your a person into nice graphics on your fancy TV, then this would be a good choice. If your not really into racing or challenging races then you probably should stay away. This is one person game, so if you need a multi player game this would not be one to go with. If you have a huge problem getting angry at this gme it would be a good choice. If get angry at this game GROW UP!
