Pros: Great quality, still have one of the "originals" when it was US Robotics and works great!
Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it

A little background information. I work for technical support for an internet service provider; in fact, I am writing this opinion from that very place right now. So I can speak from experience. Every day I get calls from people complaining, asking (more like demanding) to know what is wrong with our service. Unfortunatly, what they do not know is that thousands of others are getting connected perfectly without a problem. The reason why? Well, simple: the type of modem. Sure there is the occasional problem with the phone line (older quality can cause many problems), but majority of the time its the $10 modem failing, big surprise, that came with their $500 deal of a computer and now they are calling us to ask why it is telling them "No Dial Tone". (and yes this happens all the time, even though the message tells them) If you are one of these people I appologize, wait, no I don't. I mean common sense is what it comes to with computers. A simple cold boot can solve so many problems, my favorite analogy is a car. If it breaks down, do you A.) get up and call the manufacturer or repair man or B.) turn off the engine and try again? The answer seems obvious but why don't they make the connection with computers? That I cannot answer, maybe someday they will put 2 and 2 together. Wait, I have gone off on another tangent; now, back to the 3com modems.
I have used 3com products back to the day when they wern't 3com. Yes they were once a little company called "U.S. Robitics". In fact, I still have a X2 poster hanging in my room, geeky eh? (all those who do not know what X2 means, it was the technology that was used before V90 came out). But to be honest I was quite happy, and still am for that matter. I still have one of the original internal US Robotics 56k sportsters and it ran great, until a couple weeks ago when it finally died. After 3 long years. So I went to my boss, and he had a US Robotics sportster that was one of the original External modems. It was the most beatiful thing I have ever seen. Though older then my last one, it ran so much better. I could just sit there and watch the bits of data fly by for hours if I wasn't careful.
My point is this, US Robotics was a great company. And now that 3com has taken over they seem to keep up that reputation. However, the price of modems is a bit steep to some, but not to me. To me, you actually have to spend money to get a good product. If you want to buy a modem for $10 fine, but be warned because you get what you pay for. And even if it does connect, I can almost guarentee it won't get what you could with a higher priced, better quality, modem. People buy cheap things and wonder why they break, I don't understand it.
