Pros: 3Com name, parallel tasking -- offload processing to the NIC itself
Cons: if you don't need a managed card get the 3C905C-TX-NM instead
The Bottom Line: EXCELLENT. Must have. Don't need managed NIC? Get 3C905C-TX-NM

| buymorestuff's Full Review: 3Com EtherLink III TPO (3C509B-TPO) Network Adapte... |
Second only to the 3C905C-TX-NM, this is an excellent fast ethernet NIC. There are no negative aspects unless you consider reliability a downside. If you make your living repairing components then by all means avoid this one and buy something cheaply designed. All normal, ethical people should first consider 3COM.
3COM is THE choice for network professionals.
"3Com EtherLink NIC 3C905C-TX-M enables Pre-Boot and remote management of the desktop even if a PC fails to boot ... Parallel Tasking II technology and the DynamicAccess software, both of which bring greater performance and intelligence to the NIC."
3COM is the be all end all in home networking equipment, and produces some of the very best and most compatible network cards you could ever hope to find. The 3C905C-TX-M is an excellent NIC choice, as its price is comparable to other brands, but you get the 3COM performance and compatibility offered nowhere else. PCI is the only sane choice for NICs (between PCI and ISA).
