Pros: Easy to put up, leaves no marks
Cons: A little expensive for plastic hooks
When we moved nearly three years ago, we cut our living space almost in half. I had to get creative with our storage. One of the first things I needed was a place for our empty soda cans. I decided to hang the plastic garbage bag on the back side of the door leading down to our basement. For quick and easy installation I could do myself I chose the 3M Command Large Hook.
Attaching the Hooks
In the pack you get one white plastic hook and two adhesive strips. To mount the hook you need to clean the wall area with isopropyl alcohol. While it dries remove the red protective cover from the adhesive strip and press it firmly on the hook. Once the wall is dry remove the black cover from the strip and press on the cleaned area on the wall and hold firmly for 30 seconds. Wait an hour and the hook is ready to hold up to 5 lbs.
3M Command Hooks do just what I need them to do. They stick to the door, wall or cabinet and hang there. The one on our basement door has been there for almost 3 years holding up soda cans and bottles. It hasn't budged. The 5 lb limit is probably overkill for empty cans but I never have to worry that the hook is going to fall off.
I was so happy with my first 3M Command Hook, I went on to buy a two pack. I hung them on the side of my daughters' shelf unit so they could hand up their backpacks. Now I was challenging the 5 lb weight limit! They worked perfectly to keep their backpacks off the floor. When we rearranged their room I had to put the hooks on the other side of the selves. I had to no trouble removing the hooks. There is a loose tab under the hook that you pull down on slowly. This stretches the adhesive and loosens it from the wall and the base of the hook comes off. The adhesive strips left no marks or residue on the wood furniture. I attached the second set of adhesive strips to the hook and put them on the other side of the shelf. They have gone on to hold backpacks for another year.
What's not to love? 3M Command Hooks can be put up on just about any surface without any tools and no special "handy man" skills required. They hold the weight the claim, in this case 5 lbs. The hooks come off in a matter of seconds and leave no marks on the surface. This is another one of those now why didn't I think of that products.
