Pros:Lined, larger writing surface and sticky backing to attach this to other things
Cons:Not extremely sticky and paper is thin and tears easily
The Bottom Line: The ruled sticky notes that are 4x6 are terrific. They give a decent space to write detailed notes and help get the job done!
I enjoy the 3M Highland Ruled Notes a lot. They have a very nice size and the fact that they have lines on the front is terrific. I always find myself writing very crooked on papers when there are no lines to keep me on track. This helps solve my crooked issue.
The pads are a great shape, allow a bit more room than the standard sticky note but they are not too big taking up a ton of space. The smaller sticky notes (3x3) give enough room for a quick note, but if you want anything of value, you need more space unless you write terribly small. These lined or ruled pads are 4x6 and give you ample space to provide a nice, detailed note.
The Product
These pads of sticky notes come in pads of 100 sheets. They are very easy to use, just like normal sticky notes (or Post-Its). You have a small portion of sticky material near the top that allows you to pull the sheet off and adhere it (temporarily) somewhere else.
These pads are terrific in that they allow, as mentioned, a decent amount of space to jot a detailed note without having to turn the page over to get your message across. I love using these to jot an address down along with some driving instructions and stick it to the dashboard of my car when I have to drive somewhere that I am unsure where I am going. Dont leave the sticky note on the dashboard long though, especially if it is warm and sunny. The sticky nature seems to transfer some of the stickiness to objects they are attached to when it gets really hot!
The sheets have 16 lines on them in which you can jot down the information you need. This is after they leave about ū of an inch of blank space near the top. The notes are nice to use as flags in manila folders too. You just use the sticky side as the bottom and leave the top portion popping out of the folder and you can find what you are looking for quickly!
The stickiness of the notes is a bit lighter than I prefer. I would like them to be a bit stickier so that they will stick to things better, longer. If you use the note, pick it up to transfer it elsewhere, it will stick. But, if you use it multiple times it seems to lose the stickiness quickly. Almost quicker than other products that I have tried in the past.
But, overall the notes are excellent, as they serve their purpose very well allowing you to jot down a decent amount of information, get the point across and not have to use multiple little sticky notes or write on the backside. If you do need to write on the back, there are no lines, therefore you are free-forming your information!
The paper does seem to be a touch light. I dont know the weight of the paper itself, but it really can rip without much force at all. That can be a drawback if the note gets caught with other pieces of paper when you are shuffling items around. It can rip the sheet pretty easily.
Overall Impressions
While there are a few drawbacks, there are a lot of great things about these 3M Highland Ruled Notes. If you are looking for something a bit bigger without being the same size as a standard sheet of paper, these might fit the bill very nicely. The size of 4 x 6, in case people may not realize the size, is the size of a larger index card that you might use for recipes.
The price on these is pretty high, I think. They seem to be running about $13 - $17 per pad. I dont know that I would by them a lot. Once in a while, sure, but they would not become a standard for my house. At work, we use these, but I believe we are actually switching to another brand that has the same size and is ruled (or lined) but is more reasonably priced.
If you are looking for a better, bigger sticky note, this might be one that you would enjoy.
