Some offices supplies are essential; so essential, in fact, that they go beyond the office necessity and are a regular part of daily living. Pens and writing utensils certainly fit the bill, but other products are equally important and one of the most widely used is 3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser.
Tape Facts and Figures:
3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser is a matte- finish, binding product used to join together paper, cardboard, and other items that do not necessarily need a strong bond to hold them together. The tape is dispensed by pulling the desired length and then tearing it off using the included, serrated plastic edge. The sticky tape is then pressed down on top of the items that need to be joined, with a second layer added, if necessary, for added strength.
3M Scotch Magic Tape measures three- quarters of an inch (19 mm) in width and a standard roll includes 18 yards (16.5 meters) of tape. It is contained within a plastic dispenser that holds the roll of tape and makes dispensing convenient.
Office supply products such as general use tape are important to every household or office and I doubt there are many people who have not used and do not have a supply of tape on hand right now. It is such a basic product that we take it for granted, not even bothering to stop and think much about its application and use. We see something lightweight that needs joined, tear off a piece of tape, and attach it without a second thought.
Tape and its use are so ubiquitous that many don’t even stop to consider what they buy but if anyone bothers to stop and think about their tape purchases, there is a very good chance that the tape they purchase is Scotch, by 3M. It is so commonplace that its name has, in some circles, become a regular word. How many times have you heard a person say “I need some Scotch tape”, when what they really mean is a piece of any general use tape? We are all guilty of this and it is a testament to the widespread use and reliability of the product.
Scotch offers a few different types of tape, but its 3M Scotch Magic Tape is the most popular and the reason is due to the matte finish. It makes the tape nearly invisible (hence the name “magic”) when applied and it offers a surface on which to write. With glossy tape (which Scotch also sells, in the red package), the tape is more easily noticeable and difficult to write on. With 3M Scotch Magic Tape, you can write on it with a pen, marker, and even a pencil. A pencil mark will tend to smear a little, but it is still nice that any writing utensil is capable of writing on this tape. It makes it possible to create a quick label and seal, in one easy, invisible step.
3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser is very easy to dispense. It has its own holder and cutter and the cutting bar is extended, away from the roll, making it easy to get just the right amount of tape and leave it in such a way that it is easy to tear off the next piece. Some tapes have dispensers, but they have a cutting bar that it right next to the roll. That means, of course, that when you tear off a piece, the edge will end up falling flat against the roll, requiring the use of long fingernails to pull it back off and tear off another piece. The 3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser has its dispenser away from the roll. Once you tear off a piece of tape, a roughly two- inch extension remains, extended away from the roll, to the cutting bar. This makes it easy to grab the extension and pull off the next piece.
3M Scotch Magic Tape is strong enough to join together paper, cardboard, and other lightweight objects. Where people usually have trouble with this tape is when they expect too much and use it to tape things together that require a stronger adhesive. When this happens, the tape will either tear or pull loose from the object. It isn’t intended to tape and hold, say, a box full of books and if you use it for this purpose, there is a good chance it will break. As long as it is used for its intended purpose, it shouldn’t cause any problems. Also, depending on the surface, it is often possible to remove the tape without doing any damage. It will depend, of course, on the surface to which the tape is applied. I have peeled 3M Scotch Magic Tape off paper cleanly and without any trace that tape was once there. With cardboard, however, removal will sometimes leave a mark and take a thin surface of cardboard with it.
3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser is an inexpensive tape and it is even cheaper when purchased in a multi- pack, like the six- pack in this Epinion category. It does cost more than store brands, but I have to say that in this instance, 3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser is often worth the small amount of extra money. The difference in cost is not that much anyway, so why not go with the product more likely to result in satisfaction? The dispenser itself is a little flimsy and can break easily, but the same can be said of most any other brand of tape with a similar dispenser type. And the tape is better than most any on the store shelves, so the small amount of added cost really shouldn’t matter.
Tape is useful for countless reasons and every person in the land uses this simple adhesive for joining paper, making crafts, and forming simple bonds on lightweight objects of different types. 3M Scotch Magic Tape with dispenser is the best- known name in general purpose tape and it rates as an office/household essential. The easy dispensing, nearly invisible appearance, widespread use, universal availability, and good quality make 3M Scotch Magic Tape the best of its kind.
