In the office where I work, sticky notes are a hot commodity. We have them in pretty much every shape, size, and color you can imagine and not a day goes by that I don't use at least a dozen of them. One kind of sticky notes we have is Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes.
Price
My office buys Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes by the case. A case of 144 (divided into 12 packs of 12 note pads) costs about $65. I've also seen a pack of 12 note pads for $14.99 on Amazon.com.
Product Description
The Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes I use come in a pack of 12 note pads that are shrink-wrapped together. Each of the 12 note pads are also individually shrink-wrapped.
Each note pad has 100 sheets and they are a very light yellow color. They are about 3-4 shades lighter than the yellow Post-it notes. Each sheet is sized 2 7/8 in X 4 7/8 in, rounded to 3"X5".
The note pads are put together in the usual sticky note pad fashion; 100 sheets stuck together by their sticky backing, mounted on a branded paper backing.
My Experience
I've been using Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes at work for about 2 years now and I am not impressed.
First, and most importantly, they are just not sticky enough. I have never had one of these notes stick to any surface for more than a day or two. In fact, if the pack has been open for a couple of weeks, the notes are likely to only stick for a couple of hours, if at all. Any note that needs to stay up for more than a day has to be reinforced with tape, which pretty much makes having sticky notes pointless. Even store brand sticky notes I've purchased from Wal-Mart stick longer. Also, when you compare one of the Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes to a Post-it it's very easy to tell that the Post-it note is much stickier.
My other problem with the Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes is more of a personal preference issue. I feel that the color of the notes is too light. Light very easily shines through these notes, making it harder to read what is written on them. At first I thought maybe the notes were thinner than average, but I compared them to standard Post-it notes, and they seem to be the same thickness. Also, writing just doesn't seem to show up as well as it should on these notes. Again, this is compared to the Post-it notes.
On a side note, I find it interesting that Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes are distributed by 3M, the same company that makes Post-it notes, but are nowhere near the same quality.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I do not like Highland Yellow 3"X5" Self-Stick Removable Notes and would not choose to buy them myself. I would also not recommend this product to someone else. They just do not do a good enough job of sticking, which is supposed to be their main appeal.
