dlstewart's Full Review: 3M Post it 680 YW2: Standard Marking Flags
I love Post-it products by 3M and use them at work and home. Today on my desk are Post-it Flags in Yellow. While I wish my desk held a beautiful vase of yellow daffodils, the yellow Post-it notes, while not fragrant, add a nice touch of color.
Description
Post-it Flags come in a variety of colors and sizes. These particular flags come in a disposable plastic dispenser. Each flag is 1" wide x 1 3/4" long. Most of the flag is a clear plastic with 5/8" at the end being a bright yellow. The front of the flag is very smooth, almost silky. The back of the clear plastic is sticky while the yellow piece is smooth on both sides.
The 50 flags are designed to continuously feed out of a narrow slit in the center of the plastic container. Like a tissue box, the yellow edge pokes above the holder, ready to pull the flag free.
A blister card holds the container of Post-it Flags. The blister card measures 4 3/4" long x 2 3/4" wide. At the top of the card, is a large hole where the flags can be placed on a store peg rack for purchasing. The top of the blister card is perforated along the long side of the flag holder. Simply bend the blister card back and forth and tear it away. This leaves a small, portable dispenser that can easily fit on a desk, in a drawer, or even in a pocket. The plastic dispenser measures 2 3/4" long x 1 1/2" wide. (A tip: If the blister card is not removed, the hole at the top can be placed over a tack or pin to hang on a bulletin board or cloth-covered partition.)
My Experiences
It's hard to believe, but I am the only person in the office who uses these handy flags. I don't think my coworkers realize how versatile and convenient they are. At home, the family and I use these flags all the time.
The flags can be used as page markers, and they can also act as reminders. It is easy to write on the smooth side of the flags. I've done some experimenting. Pen and permanent marker ink is the best to use. It dries quickly and does not smudge. I also tried using a red Flair marker, but the ink is not permanent. Not only did it smudge, but when a drop of water touched it, the red ink bled and started to vanish in places.
When I read that these flags could lift correctable ink, I wrote using a blue Erasermate pen. Then I pressed the clear sticky side of the flag against it. A light impression of what I wrote stuck to the flag. However, what I wrote did not vanish or in any way look different.
Note that the manufacturer suggests testing this product on a sample before using the flags in abundance. Apparently, the flags may leave a mark on some surfaces, lift correctable ink or damage some types of paper. I don't use these flags on thin paper that might rip. I've never run into a problem using them ... but it doesn't hurt to be cautious.
Using These Flags
The Post-it Flags are simple to pull from the dispenser. The clear part of the flag sticks to paper or plastic. For example, if the clear part of the flag is placed on a catalog page, the yellow part of the flag extends beyond the page to catch the eye. It acts as a bookmark. Best yet, these flags can be reused provided the sticky part remains clean and lint or dirt free. I usually use the flags on paper.
Here are some ways to use Post-it Flags:
* Mark important areas on a document or in a textbook
* Tag frequently used pages for quick reference
* Bookmark catalog pages (and write notes on the flags)
* Use the flags to mark important calendar dates
* Earmark coupons that are about to expire
* Tag letters that need answering
* Separate different colored paper or stationery with a flag marking each layer
* Write a letter of the alphabet on each tag to index alphabetized sections
* Use different flag colors to color-code projects
* Color-code tax receipts, recipes or instruction leaflets
* Stick Post-it flags on maps to mark areas or a travel route
* Use different colored flags to color-code genealogy notes by family
* Assign family members a different color and use on activity charts
Also use the flags as reminders:
* Do not throw away
* Fax this
* Pay these bills first
* Need to finish this
* Try this recipe
As you can see, there are lots of ways to use these flags.
Likes
* Bright yellow grabs the eye
* Tags are reusable

* Write on the flags
* Clear sticky section is see-through so it doesn't block page info
* Flags stick well until they are removed
Purchasing
The Post-it Flags on my desk were purchased from Staples.com for $2.19. These Post-it Flags are available in a variety of colors and sizes. They can also be purchased in multi-packs. As can be expected, it didn't take long for manufacturer's to create desktop dispensers for them, too.
Summary
Post-it Flags make my life more organized and my desk more colorful. I'm always finding more uses for the flags and often buy them as little gifts to tuck in baskets or cards. A rainbow of color, these flags are useful!
Enjoy your day,
Dawn
