In my house, cat hair gets everywhere. "Music" is adorable, but sheds all over the place. And, although I'd like to blame everything on the cat, I have to say that my own, human, hair tends to shed a lot, too. Thus every fabric surface ends up covered with hair. It's not very attractive. Especially when you sit on the couch, then get up to go to work in your nice black pantsuit. Let's just say that 3M Lint Rollers are scattered everywhere in my home.

What are they?

They are very sturdy plastic holders onto which you slide a roll of continuous, perforated sheets of tape. They come in many different sizes. The one I use most frequently has a 5" curved handle attached to a 4" rod. It's easy to insert the rod into the 4" X 30' roll of tape. The rolls of tape come with a smooth paper cover which can be used repeatedly so that when you put it away, the sticky tape is covered with paper.

How do you use them?

Remove the paper cover. Then roll the tape over any surface. Use it on clothing, towels, couch seats, car seats, carpets, and counter tops. Anywhere that hair, small crumbs, lint, and dust accumulate. As you roll, the junk sticks to the tape. The 3M tape is very sticky and can be used repeatedly until it's completely covered. At that time, simply peel off the top sheet of tape. As opposed to other kinds of tape, the end is easy to find, and easy to peel. When the top sheet has been peeled, tear along the perforations and discard. Then you'll be ready to use the next piece of tape. When you're finished, put the paper cover back on by simply wrapping it around the top piece of tape. Nothing can be simpler! When you finish the entire roll of tape, toss it out and slide on a new one.

How well does it work?

This simple device works amazingly well. I use it on my clothing before I walk out the door. Just a few swipes up and down my shirt and pants, and I know I won't be bringing kitty to work with me. Before company comes, I make sure to use it on my fabric couches. And the pads on the lounge chairs on the deck. All the spots where kitty likes hang out. I also use it in my car. A quick roll on the fabric seats really picks up those crumbs!

Where do I find them and how much are they?

These rollers are sold all over the place - supermarkets, retail stores, drugstores, and even pet stores. I bought a set of them at Sam's Club - it came with 3 holders and 3 rolls of tape, for around $5. Sold individually, expect to pay a few dollars for each set.
