One of my latest finds in the Playmobil Castle series was the Fierce Knights; after coming across the Fierce Knights Leader and really liking the colors that the designers used on the figure I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before I picked up this set. Try as I might, I couldn’t find it locally so I turned to the internet. The Playmobil Online Store sells this for $6.99 which is a great deal when you look at what you get for your money but I managed to find it online for $5.99 and got free shipping. I knew what I was getting when I ordered the set but I was still a little surprised when I opened up the box and started assembling the figures; tons of weapons, different colored uniforms and more helmets! If you have a child that is into the Playmobil Castle or Knights series, this is a great set to pick up for them.

Playmobil Fierce Knights 7673

This set includes three knights, weapons and accessories – a great, inexpensive way to add men to your castle scene, battles or just to have on your desk as a conversation piece. All three knights have different uniforms but they carry the same theme, stenciled chain mail on either a red or black solid colored torso. The neck wraps [two silver / gray, one yellow] are nice accents and can be removed from the figures is you so desire. Since all of the accessories, weapons and helmets can be interchanged within the Playmobil system you can swap out the pieces to create different knights. This really helps to increase the replay value of the figures and allows a child [or adult] to really have a lot of fun with them. For me, being able to create new knights is half the fun, the other half is posing them in battle scenes or having them gang up on some of the other Playmobil figures I’ve collected over the past year or so.

The weapons that come with this set are simply awesome! I’d been looking for round shields but didn’t want to have to order the weapon accessory set from the website for just a few pieces so when I saw this set I knew that it would be cheaper to buy a few of these to stock up on some accessory pieces. The shields are highly detailed; two of them are black with silver / gray centers and one is brown with the same silver / gray center. You really have to see and feel the surface of the shield to get the full benefit of the detail that was added to them; just like almost all weapons and accessory pieces, these an be snapped onto the knights hands, on to the sides of horses or in a castle armory. You also get two battle axes and a nice long sword; as I mentioned, these can be snapped into the knight’s hands or used on any other Playmobil piece that has a grip. The only downside to these items is that when they are used on the figures the do leave them prone to falling over or tilting if they are extended away from the body. My quick fix for this is to take some poster putty, roll it into a ball and place it on the bottom of their boots.

As with all Playmobil figures, these stand about three inches high and have movable arms and legs. The wrist cuffs are removable and can be swapped out with other colors if you want to change the overall appearance of the knights. These are some of the smallest pieces in the set and could easily be swallowed by a small child so make sure that these figures and the accessories are kept out of the reach of the wee ones. The tips on the sword and battle axes aren’t all that sharp but the sword could break the skin if jabbed at someone or if a child falls on it. You can dull the tip of it by filing it down with a fingernail file although this will roughen the edge and change the appearance of it. My suggestion, cover it with a piece of tape or dip it in some warm candle wax.

The Bottom Line

I was really happy to find this set at a place other than the Playmobil website – not that I have anything against the site or their prices but it’s pretty hard to go there and order just one thing. If you have a child that is into any of the castle, magic or knight themes from Playmobil, this set makes for a great purchase to bolster their weapons, figures and accessories. Given that there are three figures that can be built to your liking or mixed with other sets this is a great choice for kids who are into construction type sets and at under seven bucks retail – you can see if it’s something that they will like without having to sink a lot of money into the larger sets. And don’t forget … the holidays are right around the corner and these make great stocking stuffers!
