Out of all the many toys that I collect, Crayola Crayons is probably high on the top of my list. Crayola has been a favorite of mine since I was a young child. The reason being that it is such a versatile product that can be used in some ways besides just for coloring in books.

Crayola Crayons can be melted down to make candles, to be a colorful waxy background on a watercolor painting, to make decorative jewelry, and the list doesn't stop there. So you can see why I have such a love for this product.
I started actively collecting various Crayola products about ten years ago. Within the last couple of years, my interests have shifted to the collectible tins that they make available on what seems like an annual basis.
Each Christmas, I am able to purchase a tin that includes a Crayola ornament as well as a large box of Crayons. Unfortunately this is the first year that I was unable to locate one even on their web site. The best time to purchase these items is after Christmas because the price slashes in half at most retailers.
The Anniversary Tin
Now onto the Anniversary Tin. I purchased the 40th Anniversary Tin along with the Anniversary Pad of colored paper. These items are sold separately but to complete the package you really need to purchase both if you are a collector. I feel it fair to warn you that since I am a collector, I do not open my packaging so I cannot attest to the quality of the contents. However, if it follows the quality standards that the rest of the Crayola products then you surely won't be disappointed. I would also like to add that this particular tin is a 1998 version so the only place you will probably be able to purchase this set is online.
This Crayola tin is designed to replicate the 1958 box of Crayons. Each side of the square tin has history about the Crayola Crayons. This set of Crayons is a reproduction of the box of Crayons that was then available with the inclusion of several new colors, making it the largest box of Crayons available on the market. A couple of my favorite colors that were introduced into that box were burnt orange and copper. I was not aware until purchasing this set that this was also the first year that they introduced the built-in sharpener to keep your Crayons at a fine point.
Why such a big deal about the built-in sharpener? Only the genius minds behind Crayola would have thought of such a thing. The sharpener is a fantastic addition to the line because Crayons tend to wear down quickly with rounded tops that start to creep under the paper. Using a worn down Crayon that has a rounded edge doesn't give the artist as fine a detail and tends to leave more of a wax coating than it does when it is sharpened to a medium point. Now don't throw away those Crayon shavings from sharpening because those can be used in future art projects or melted down for candle coloring.
This Anniversary Tin is an excellent addition to any collector's crop of Crayola products. I suppose it would also make a fine gift for any child but depending on their age, I doubt they could fully appreciate the purpose of the collector tin. However, if buying this as a gift for a child the tin itself would be ideal to house the Crayons so they aren't strung throughout the room.
Crayola has been a household name for years. They continue to produce quality products for children of all ages to create and make use of their imagination. I dare you to find one household with children that doesn't have Crayola art lining the refrigerator or walls.
They are best known for the creation and production of Crayons but their current line of products includes activity kits, paint sets, paper, books, collectibles, and much more. Crayola products are always a safe bet when it comes to purchasing a gift for a child.
With that said, start your collection of Crayola products today and bring back memories from your own childhood.
