Winchester USA 45 Auto 185 gr Silvertip HP
This is Winchester's bargain brand of centerfire ammunition sold under the USA label and packaged in the White Box. In fact most shooters familiar with it call it Winchester White Box.
The USA label is produced in a limited number of chamberings that are some of the most popular in terms of sales volume. Sport and target shooters burn up a lot of ammunition and Winchester gets their share of the market with the USA line.
The only sizes you will find are very common ones like this 45 ACP, used in the Colt/Browning 1911 pistol that was a standard for the US military for over 70 years and still is being used in military and law enforcement including some very prestigious groups like the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team. Clearly, a pistol almost 100 years old is still A-OK in their book.
A few other sizes you can get in Winchester White Box are 9mm Luger, 38 Super, 5.56 NATO, 7.62x39, and 7.62 NATO. There are others but typically only big sellers are produced in this series as they like to keep their machines running large lots so they can keep the prices reasonable.
This ammunition has all brass cartridge cases so it can be reloaded if you do that. The projectiles are usually full metal jacketed (FMJ) to aid in feeding through autoloading mechanisms as that is what most of this is fired in. A new development is Personal Defense loadings for persons who carry firearms. These are available with Silvertip Hollow Point bullets and are loaded in typical carry calibers like 45 ACP; 9mm; 38 Special; 357 Magnum; 44 Magnum; and 380 ACP.
The 45 ACP personal defense ammunition comes in a box of 20 rounds. It is great personal defense ammo for those who carry and also very accurate on the target range although I recommend buying dedicated target ammo if you are doing much practice as it is cheaper and just as accurate.
I have used this ammo in my Colt .45 Government Model and the Colt Commander, which is a shorter barreled .45 Automatic. These guns are self loaders and cycle automatically for each time the trigger is pulled.
The Colt Gold Cup National Match is the model that was developed for the National Pistol Matches at Camp Perry every year. This model has adjustable sights and a better trigger pull than the standard Government Model, although it is similar in other aspects. The .45 personal defense loads can be shot in this gun also and are surprisingly accurate and fun. You can use the ammunition for plinking, which is shooting cans and similar items rather than formal target shooting, but again, the defense loads are more expensive so should be reserved for that purpose and standard target ammo should be burnt up for extended shooting practice.

When shooting, always wear ear protection and obey the four rules.
o All guns are loaded.
o Never point a gun at something you do not wish to destroy.
o Be sure of your back stop. Guns shoot through things.
o Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
