If you're looking for a basic CD player that has good sound with out all the bells and whistles this player is for you.
Pros:
It has a great sound. On of the features I like is the SCM button. It gives you 4 user defineable EQ presets. 3 of them are labled: Beat, Pop, Soft. The fourth set is the SCM off setting. The manual has suggested values for the Bass and treble, but I found that to be really useless. I set them according to my personal preference. I have my SCM off set to give a good sound for most Rock, and the Beat is set to my prefernce for hip hop. I don't really use the others, but if I listened to different music I can see how that'd be fun to have more to use.
The Volume control is a /- button. The salesman tried to tell me that it wouldn't be as responsive as a knob, but I think its just as good. I've had the unit over a year now and the volume works the same as the first day. I've heard and seen that alot of the digital volume knobs wear out with time.
I really like the jump to a track buttons. In the radio mode these buttons are for your presets, but in the CD mode it will let you jump to a specific track number 1-12. There are 6 buttons. When you just tap them it goes to 1-6 accordingly. If you hold them it goes to 7-12. Very nice when you know what track you want. Much faster than hitting the forward and back buttons.
Another nice feature is the "Att" Volume setting. I believe this is a feature unique to JVC. I saw a friend with a different JVC model and he had ATT too. "ATT" is an abbreviation for Attention I think. Its the same button as the power button. If you just tap it, it goes to the att mode. It cuts the volume value in half. Very nice if somebody needs to talk for a second in the car. If you need to turn it way down in a hurry you can hit the ATT button and then the down volume button and it will lower the volume from that lower rate. If you want to turn it back to the original volume just hit it again. If you hold the button it powers down.
This player doesn't come with many non-essential features. It has plenty of power for 4 speakers (40X4 watts). The more expensive players have a remote, but why do you really need a remote when the unit is with in reach anyway? It doesn't have the fancy pictures that dance across the player but those are pretty distractive and really don't make the sound any different. I usually don't take the faceplate off, but it does come off. When I park in bigger cities.
