| sashazur's Full Review: Aiwa AV-D97 5.1 Channels Receiver |
At the local mega-electronics retailer, there were a lot of "home theatre in a box" systems. This one caught my attention because the price was good, it had digital inputs for dolby digital and DTS, and its looks were simple and unassuming -- it seems like with a lot of home stereo equipment, lower prices mean a more sci-fi gadgety look (which I hate), but luckily this Aiwa seems to avoid that trend, more or less.
The sound quality is great and it's nice to finally get the full sound quality from my DVDs. Overall I'm happy with this system and feel like I got my money's worth.
I do have some minor peeves about this system:
- The labels on the remote are mostly light green text on a light grey background. They're impossible to read in anything but bright lighting.
- The lighted display on the front of the unit is a bit overdone, with lots of cute pointless animated graphics. Compared to similar systems though, it isn't that bad.
- Main right/left speakers seem to be on the small side when used for playing regular (non-DVD) audio.
- The unit has a clock but it isn't used for anything and is hard to set. Luckily the time (or "12:00") are not displayed unless you want them... but then why was a clock put in this thing in the first place?
