Pros: A very musical receiver. Locks onto the data stream instantaneously. Preamp outputs.
Cons: Could have binding posts for all speakers.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this receiver to anyone who demands great sound for both music and movies, but are looking to spend under $500.00

| sidamo's Full Review: Denon AVR-1801 5.1 Channels Receiver |
For those who listen to music as much or more than watching movies, I highly recommend this receiver. Recently I bought one of the new DVD-A players and connected it to the 6 channel external input of this receiver. The sound is incredible. It really tests the musical capabilities of the receiver, and proves you don't have to spend your life savings.
The receiver has just about every feature you could want. One of the main features I bought the receiver for was the preamp outputs for left/center/right main channels. After listening to the receiver's musical capabilities I have held off buying an external amplifier.
The receiver's Dolby Digital and DTS decoding sound great. The receiver will lock onto the data (PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS) stream instantaneously when set to the 'auto' mode. Bass management works flawlessly with an 80hz crossover point to the subwoofer.
At 70 watts per channel this receiver provided ample power for my medium size (16' x 20') living room. Bass is clean and punchy. Treble is clear without sounding overly bright. I have not even had to use the Cinema eq for movies (tames bright sounding soundtracks).
The AVR-1801 has plenty of inputs, including 3 for your digital sources. The only negative aspect of this receiver is that it does not have binding post connections for all speakers, just the front left/right and center channels.
For those of you on a budget but demand great sound, this is the receiver you should look into.
