| LaBruja's Full Review: Olympus Stylus Zoom 140 QD 35mm Film Camera |
I purchased an Olympus Stylus Zoom (38-70mm) as a gift over 4yrs. ago and was impressed with the pictures it took. The camera was compact, weather resistant and well made. It simply didn't have as much zoom as I like. Feedback from friends indicated an exceptionally high level of satisfaction with the Olympus Stylus so I was thrilled when the Stylus 140 was introduced several years ago.
The camera is impressively compact even with the long zoom. Focus and exposure are exemplary and fully support the excellent reputation Olympus has earned with their P&S cameras. The red eye reduction appears to work somewhat better than in many P&S's (which frankly, is still far from good). I find this camera is a pleasure to use. The weather resistance is an especially appealing feature. It's the camera I always have with me in inclement weather.
I highly recommend this line of cameras. There is an Olympus Stylus in almost every price range and all of them perform beautifully. (In fact I've had generally excellent results with the Olympus brand. I've purchased 2 camera from their their less expensive lines as gifts and they've performed very well.)
I wish that I could comment on Olympus technical support, however none of the Olympus cameras I've purchased have had any problems even though 2 of them were refurbished models. My daughter (and my niece) are quite careless with exposing their cameras to excess heat, sand, dust etc. and still have never had a problem with their camera. I've used mine more carefully but have shot lots of film with it in the past several years and it works as well as the day I received it.
If you're buying a P&S look very carefully at the Olympus brand, especially the Olympus Stylus models. The Stylus 140 with its extended zoom is the ultimate P&S in a world class lineup of P&S cameras. Every Stylus owner I've talked to has been happy with their camera.
