| WhiteLightning's Full Review: Philips CDR765 2-Disc CD Recorder |
Since I was a little kid and I purchased my first cd, I always wanted to record onto cd. Just last year, I purchased the Phillips CDR765BK cd recorder. Right from the start, I was amazed at the ease of recording a cd. I learned how to record from disc to disc and basically every other function that the recorder had within the first night. It's really easy to use if you know what to do. If you lost the instructional book, however, I doubt somebody could figure out how to use it.
Other than being easy to use, this cd recorder is very convenient. All you have to do is purchase blank cd's. These can be purchased from any music store for approximately $2. A deal considering new cd's cost any where from $6 - $17.
One thing about the cd recorder that I wasn't sure about was the quality of the cd's it would create. I was astonished to hear same quality cd to cd recordings. The cds the recorder creates are the exact same quality of those bought in stores for high prices. I was, however, a little disappointed that when recording from record to cd, the quality was just as good as what the record was. If the record was scratched and dusty, the quality of the cd would suck. Even with a good clean new record though, the cd quality wasn't the greatest, but it still is nice. I guess I just thought that the cd recorder would take the record and just fix up all the sounds from it, and produce a cd with just as high of quality as a new cd. I'm looking into the future to much. Soon my idea will be reality, I hope.
You may be thinking to yourself, "The cd recorder by itself costs a fortune. I think I'm going to wait until the price tag goes down." Well that's a dumb idea if you're thinking that. I've seen this exact cd recorder for under $500. It's went down about as much as it can, unless you want to wait a few years and waste your money on rip off $17 cds until you get the cd recorder. You can wait, but you won't be at the edge of the greatest invention ever, the cd recorder. (it's not really the greatest invention, but it sounds cool)
Now that we got on the money issue, this cd recorder does save money in the long run. Lets say you just buy cd's at full price for a few years. Let's say that the average price for these cd's is $14, middle priced depending on where you go. Then your friend purchased the cd recorder for $499 and the same amount of blank cd's as you for $2 each. At what amount of money or how many cd's will you have to buy for the numbers to equal out?
In fact, I graphed this scenario on my graphing calculator and I was astounded at the results. After buying 42 cd's, the cd recorder is saving you money.
Buying pre-made cds (42 * 14) = $588
Buying the cd recorder 499 + (42 * 2) = $583
As you can see, It save you tons of money in the long run. And after those 42 cd's the difference is tremendous. After that you only have to pay $2 a cd rather than $14. What you you rather do?
But this product isn't recommended by me to everyone. If you're a person that kind of likes music and never gets cd's this product isn't for you. If you love all kinds of music and are constantly wanting millions of cd's, this product is perfect for you.
Now I've talked about all the good, now lets talk about the only bad I could think of. The only thing I could find wrong with the Philips CDR765BK is that after you use it numerous times, you find that even waiting while it's in double speed takes to long. Now, double speed is good but sometimes I feel it's not fast enough. In reality, right now it's fast enough unless you want to spend thousands of dollars on a super-fast recorder.
I love recording cd's and making mixes, it's so convenient. But I think I'm going to wait another five years for a faster one's price to come down. But for you now, I think you should jump on the opportunity to create cd's and not wait five years. I already own one, that's why I'm waiting. It's definitely worth your money.
