purchased: Costco
cost: approx. $150
I recently bought one of these t.v.s to use as a second television. Since the unit is small and lightweight we thought we could easily transport the unit from the bedroom to the basement, kitchen or wherever else we wanted to watch it.
The good stuff:
tv/vcr.
The advantage to having a vcr attached to a portable television is considerable if you enjoy watching videos around the house. It's one of those things -- until you experience the ease at which you can "pop a tape in", you probably won't get it. However, if you are in the market for a tv combined with a vcr you should seriously consider the Sharp line of televisions.
convenient size.
It's really all about convenience with this unit. The majority of the video stores maintain a larger selection of films in vhs format rather than dvd. Realizing this influenced our decision to buy a portable vcr/tv combo. Our main television experience is DVD only.
picture.
The picture is good. That isn't saying all that much really; if you are discriminating at all you may find the color dissatisfying and the tiny screen size claustrophobic, but you have to keep in mind it is a small tv!
misc. features.
The unit has "video in" and "audio" jacks easily accessible on the front of the television. Handy for quick access. *WARNING* On a number of occasions I have come close to dropping the Sharp tv. The handle to pick up the unit is very awkward; its not quite placed properly and when you pick it up by this handle the bulk of the tv flys forward and down. Unfortunately, you have to carry it with two hands.
The bad stuff:
- small picture size
- decent reception, but not great
- awkward handle
- sound is tiring, long term
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): 150
