JVC GR-DVM50U is the smallest and lightest digital video camcorder that I have seen.
Although it looks very nice, it is not convenient to hold it (the traditional camcorder design is much better suited for this purpose). You operate it with one hand, since it is so small and lightweight.
Anyway this camera is compact, includes everything you need (except a camera bag and S-Video cable) - AC Adaptor/Charger, Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, Hand grip strap, A/V Cable, editing cable, Lens Cap, Tape, Multibrand Remote Control, software (JLIP Video Capture, JLIP Video Producer, Presto! Mr. Photo, Presto! Photo Album, Presto! Image Folio), docking station, RS-232C PC/AT Compatible cable, DC adapter, cleaning cloth.
The GR-DVM50U has a high-resolution color viewfinder and the 2.5-inch high-resolution color swivel LCD screen, which makes it easy to shoot from any angle with improved accuracy.
The camcorder has a 10x optical and 200x digital zoom and includes several digital effects. It also has a built-in speaker so you can review your work instantly. The 200x digital zoom with spline interpolation helps you bring even faraway subjects into detail.
The GR-DVM5OU can also act as a still-frame digital camera, which has five different snapshot modes. It comes with cables that allow you to connect it to your computer and five applications to help you edit your moving or still shots (but you will have to get a special video capture card, which is not included).
The camcorder's basic features are easy to use and the picture quality is much better than that of a regular 8mm or VHS-C camcorder both visually and according to specifications (digital camcorders have 500 lines of resolution which is significantly better than any analog model's).
Be careful with cassette loading mechanism though, it's easy to push it in the wrong spot while loading a cassette and cause the cassette holder to bend.
The most pleasant surprise: The slower LP speed doesn't make the picture quality any worse than the standard SP speed (probably because it is a digital camcorder), so there is no sense to use the SP speed, unless you don't expect to shoot a lot.
Overall I like the camcorder, but it's a little too expensive.
