Pros: Large color viewfinder, interesting features
Cons: Tons of technical problems
The Bottom Line: I can't recommend this camera, to anyone who isn't an electronic technician. It will cost you a fortune to repair, and will be in service more than in use.

| SanguinMoon's Full Review: JVC GR-DVL9500 Mini DV Camcorder |
I bought this camera a little over two years ago. I'm a video/film production student and needed a high resolution camera to shoot my various homework assignments.
I first wrote a review on this camera praising it, because I loved it so. Times have changed. I noticed almost immediately after buying the camera that it was giving me some difficulty, when I made attempts to hook it up to a TV or VCR. I didn't want to believe that the trouble was with my camera, I mean it was brand new, and it wasn't a Sony, so how could I have problems so soon?
A few more months past and I began to notice tiny white squares on my viewfinder. These same spots showed up on my footage. I don't know why, or how, but ever since (periodically) I get these small "blank spots", that ruin every shot I take.
The biggest problem I have is that I constantly need it for school and freelance work. This camera is my bread and butter.
I had to replace the RCA cable due to continuing problems with transferring my material from DV's to digital editing stations. It took, a couple weeks to get a new cord, which killed me academically, not to mention set me back $25.00.
It's now about a year later, and I still have trouble with hooking my camera up to other equipment. It doesn't matter if it's a TV, VCR, VTR, or digital workstation. I'm at the point now, that I have shot all of my portfolio footage with it, but I can't digitize the footage for editing on a media 100 system or Apple G4. I tried using the RCA'a, the S Video & the fire wire. Sometimes, I can't get a video signal, other times I receive no audio or just mono, when I shot in stereo.
I'm in a lot of trouble now, because of this, I can't finish my portfolio. If I can't finish my portfolio. I don't graduate. I also have employers looking forward to seeing my demo material. JVC as of now, will not give me a loaner while I have my camera serviced, and I sure as hell can't afford 2K for a new one.
I have less than 7 weeks to complete 12 weeks worth of work.
Thank You JVC, Thank You very much!
