| catchfire20's Full Review: Kenwood CD-423M 200-Disc CD Changer |
As my CD collection started to consume every compact disc tower I had available, I thought it would be best to buy a big cd changer to solve all the clutter issues. The thing was, I really did not want to spend too much on it, but I wanted something that would last me for a while. I came up to this disc changer mostly because of it's price. I paid $149.00 for it and thought Kenwood was a cheap, but reliable brand and thought to give it a shot.
When I first plugged it in, it was very easy to program. Basically you insert your discs into the changer and the cd player will automatically read the disc to see if there is any relevant information it can display regarding the album title and tracks. Not only that, but you can enter the album titles and it will keep the titles for a few weeks in the system if you remove the disc so when you replace it, there is no need to retype the album information. The CD player has programmable tracks and you can do random selection for just one CD, one specific genre (in which you specifically can program) or the whole 200 disc changer. That way, you can always here certain styles of music no matter what mood you are in.
At this price, however, there are some faults of the disc changer. First is that once you turn it on, it goes through all the discs to read all information (seeing which slots are open and time to change discs). This takes about a minute, but you can play the disc currently cued while this is taking place. Another thing is that it takes a while for the changer to switch discs. I am not sure if most changers are like this, but when set to random play, this can become annoying. When it does change discs, I did notice that it is quite loud and let's you know when a disc change is taking place. It's a lot louder than most changers of this size, as that is probably a reason why it is more modestly price. I have had a few isolated incidents of discs getting jammed, but after having it about a year, it has only happened 3 times.
Overall, I have been satisfied by the quality of the machine and the price was quite a steal for this unit. It's really just a great storage for all your CD's and saves costs on buying storage towers and cabinets for all the CD's and jewel cases. It has all the basic playing capacity of any CD player by showing all time coordinates of the disc playing and title of the album playing. It fits my basic needs and I recommend it to anyone just looking to get rid of the clutter of their CD's.
