This is one of the best portable CD-players I’ve ever had!
Delicious and solid aluminium and plastic body just a bit bigger than a CD itself. My only complaint is that there’s no Mega Bass button on the player itself. If you’re like me you don’t want a remote to be attached and maybe dangling around – And when you’ve interrupted power supply in order to change batteries the player is reset – and no Mega Bass… Well found out I just had to touch pin 2 and 4 (from the left) of the remote jack with a 2.3 k ohm resistor in order to “click the sound button on the remote” (do it at your own risk!). Woila, I won’t need to have the remote with me when travelling! Yeah, the remote also have other functions like repeat, program and so on but I’ll never use these functions anyway.
Oh, there’s one complaint more... After buying the player I wanted an extra pair of rechargeable batteries since it’s not possible to connect the AA case to the player itself – just dangles around; not great.
I’m living in Denmark (and hi fidelity stuff is generally expensive here due to taxes, “suggested retail prices” and so on). When I wanted to buy an extra pair of NH-14WM batteries I found out that the price was about 28 USD per battery – 56 USD for an extra pair! I don’t know the price in other countries – but that’s just too much no matter what. But luckily I found out that this battery size, of NH-14-WM, is industrial standard size. That means, if you go to a store selling electronic components (like Radio Shack in the US or Brinck Elektronik in Denmark) and ask for a “Sanyo Twicell HF-A1U”, then you’ll get a NiMH (Sony’s also a NiMH) battery with exactly the same size as Sony’s and about the same capacity! – The price in Denmark for one Sanyo Twicell HF-A1U is about 7 USD, 14 USD for an extra pair – a much more acceptable and fair price!
Well, after all the D-EJ915 is not that bad. I’ve had my unit for about a month – and though walking and other travelling activities it never skipped anything. Actually due to Sony’s new developed anti shock mechanism it can be used in situations where only MD and MP3 players will function! (MP3 doesn’t count because of lame sound quality and most players use memory (not CD-ROM) which mean you can’t just chance the disc in order to hear some new music).
Not to mention the mechanics of this player – when operated it’s spinning quietly like a healthy cat. Compared when listening to the mechanics of my old CD-player (and older Panasonic SL-S650), which is sounding something like crunching candy (it’s a metaphor – so owners of SL-S650 don’t worry).
