| segaskate's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-EJ611 Personal CD Player |
<<SONY D-EJ611>> This is the most amazing portable CD player I have ever seen, heard, or owned. For the price, you get quality that can't be experienced with any other portable CD player on the market (except the more expensive Sony models, of course!).
G-PROTECTION - Yes, it sounds gimmicky, but it is so much more. We have all heard of "ESP" before, and we all know it wasn't perfect. ESP sucked the life out of your batteries before you put on your headphones, and it didn't COME CLOSE to stopping every skip. Meet G-Protection, your new best friend. I have owned my CD Walkman for about 5 months, and I can safely and honestly say that it has never skipped. Also, the player runs remarkably well on batteries. With 2 AA batteries, my player lasts (on my estimate) 14 hours on batteries. I take mine on the bus everyday (I use it for about 1 hour per day and weekends too), and I only have to worry about my batteries about every 2 weeks. This is wonderful, as with the older Discmans you were changing batteries every few days with the ESP turned on.
SOUND - Simply amazing. Unlike portable CD players of the past, this is full, rich, bold sound. Pressing the "sound" button will increase the bass. On rock songs especially, increasing the bass makes a HUGE difference. Your songs will sound fuller than ever before, with bass that usually can't get picked up without a set of high-end speakers. For those who like music that doesn't require a bass boost, the extra bass can be turned off.
DURABILITY - The CD Walkman is quite rugged for what it is. I have dropped mine a couple times, and it rides in the outermost pocket of my backpack everyday. So far it shows almost no wear at all, quite cool eh?
Unlike the old Discmans, the buttons for the CD Walkman are on the top. This makes it easier to operate, but there is one thing you must remember! Always put your player on "Hold" (Hold prevents it from turning on until you turn hold off) when you aren't using it. With the buttons on top, it can be quite easy for it to get bumped and turn on when you don't want it to. This also saves batteries from excess drain.
FEATURES - With your CD Walkman you get headphones and an AC Adapter (for a wall outlet). The AC Adapter is great for when you are at home, so you won't need - or need to waste - batteries at all. The headphones are quite good, but audio enthusiasts may want to purchase some beefier headphones than those provided. There is also a shuffle mode, repeat, and programmable tracks. And of course the standard features: skip forward and backward, play, pause, stop, hold, etc. The volume is not a "wheel" like the older Discman, instead there are up and down buttons located on the side of the unit. The shape has been changed to make the unit smaller as well, it is now just a little bigger than a CD around, making it more portable then ever.
OVERALL - After 5 Months of almost daily use: no wear and tear, no wasted batteries, and best-of-all NO SKIPPING! If you are in the market for a new portable CD player (or will need one down the road), you cannot go wrong with the Sony D-EJ611 CD Walkman. It features the most advanced features on the market, and the price is right. I found at most major electronics stores it sells for $96-99 (not the $109 price given by Epinions).
