Pros: Great sound
More than enough power for the average user
Cons: Remote is complicated to setup, but once setup works great
The Bottom Line: Get this receiver if you have the time to put into setting it up. Once you do don't touch a thing and it will work perfect.

| djtoosweet's Full Review: Kenwood VR-410 Receiver |
I live in Nova Scotia, and with the Canadian dollar doing more dives than Olympic water sports, it is really hard to find an affordable Receiver. Kenwood must have saw this as an issue and put some thought into what they could give folks trying to get into the Home Theatre area.
The manual for the unit is great. It basically walks you through everything you need to know for hooking the unit up, and then getting the unit setup to work. For the price, you get great power. We tried to "max out" the volume and still no distortion (except a slight ringing in my ears). A real tribute to Kenwood and the company that made my speakers. Hooked up to a mid level VCR with traditional stereo outputs and the receiver still made watching movies a dream.
The real surprise was the digital audio difference. With no point of comparison, we hooked up a new model Hitachi DVD player and let me tell you I never thought sounds could be in so many places at once. I didn't know where all the sounds were coming from at one point and that was a thrill.
The only drawback is the remote control. As I said earlier, the unit and manual are so nicely designed you can walk through with no real trouble. However, any manufacturer that provides a separate manual for their remote, within the same box, worries me. The remote is very busy looking, and somewhat complicated. I wouldn't recommend this at all for a new person. Best to continue walking across the room. Forget about trying to do anything in the dark...for example, you hear the phone ring (provided you can actually hear the phone) you better get up and turn the knob on the unit because the remote will leave you questioning until you get used to it.
On the whole this is a good unit for the price. I'd recommend it to anyone who knows what they want.
