| cassini's Full Review: Pioneer X-MT2000 CD Shelf System |
Hi :)
Okay, let's just say, first of all, that I love this micro-HiFi by Pioneer - this is an absolute gem, in terms of sound quality, and also in terms of its looks and functionality... So i may sound a little biased, but, the hell, I'm biased for a reason at least :)
So! Let's see - let's go through its features - 3disc CD changer, AM/FM stereo, & an auxilery input - no tape for those of you out there who need it, forget about this one then, unless you are willing to hook up your walkman on to it every time u listen to cassettes.
You might not say the 3disc CD changer's just a gimmick, but u'll be surprised at how much better it is compared to just the single disc loader - would you really want to come back & change CDs every hour while you just want some background music? (especially if you want some atmospheric music for that special someone ;)... ) And it's also handy in that the two discs that it isn't playing is changable while it's playing the third disc - neat huh? However it is prone to jamming up if the CD isn't inserted properly, almost happened to me, and happened to a friend when hers jammed up - got it fixed under warranty but obviously, it's a hassle.
The AM/FM tuner's nothing special, just an ordinary one, and the Aux input also, I can't imagine what extra features either of those could have...
Its standout quality that I liked so much about this was the sound & the looks, it's the kind of looks that's minimalist yet sleek, and it'll grow on you. the speakers have that reddish wooden look, perhaps because it's make of reddish wood :).. don't ask me what it is, i'm not sure.. :)
The sound - it's one of the most crisp sounding stereo in its price range, and has reasonable bass for the size of the speakers - and the adjustable bass/treble levels are to my taste, and many of you out there'd appreciate a little bit of customisablility. It's also got a audio out AND a mono subwoofer out for those of you thow want a bit of extra oomph/bass ;)
the interface is annoyingly simple (well, not annoyingly as much as in a much appreciated way!) with two dials, one for the volume, the other for switching between functions (CD, Aux, Tuner), on the front of the stereo. Oh, have I mentioned it's visually pleasing? quite so much so that I went to the trouble of rendering the thing on 3d Studio just for fun :)... (Hey, it's my spare time, I can do damn well what i like with it! :)... )
So I'd recommend it for those of you looking for a decent micro system on a budget - it's no B&O or Boss component system by any means, but it sure is cool & great value for money! I can't give it an "Excellent" overall just due to its niggles, those being the not quite excellent sound and the CD changer jamming up easily, but for that price, u'd be hard pressed to do better!
