Pros: Premium sound; Aiwa reputation; Main unit is well-made; High-quality headphones
Cons: No lanyard/belt clip; The car-lighter adapter is a safety hazard!
The Bottom Line: Despite the grief dealt me by the car adapter, this is a phenomenal unit. Don't let one drawback stop you from making the Aiwa XP-570 your next portable CD player!

| mothermeatloaf's Full Review: Aiwa XP-570 Personal CD Player |
Since I've started working out regularly (see my epinion on the ProForm 965R), I've been using the Aiwa XP-570 Personal CD Player very often. The unit itself is tremendously durable, as I have found from dropping it repetitively during my exercise regimen. Such experiences segue nicely into my only gripe with the MAIN unit: there is no lanyard or belt clip, which means, if you use this CD player, you must lay it atop something close to you or hold it, which may not be very convenient in any given situation.
PROS:
1. The unit is sleek and lightweight.
2. The Aiwa XP-570 Personal CD Player features a one-touch
mechanical opening and closing mechanism.
3. It has a green LCD window for high visibility.
4. The other features include:
- Skip/Search buttons
- Play/Pause button
- Roll touch volume control
- DSL option, which allows you to control the
loudness, not volume, of the music. It acts
as a sort of equalizer/bass modulator.
- It offers three play modes: Repeat, which
automatically replays the CD once it ends;
Random, which plays the entire CD by
scrambling the order of the songs; and
Normal.
- EASS, or Electronic Anti-Skip System. This is
a 10 second anti-skip buffer that actually
works and allows for uninterrupted listening.
5. The headphones that accompany the unit are high-quality
stereo, adjustable Aiwa headphones, model M012. They
hold up wonderfully to the unit's highest output with
innocuous distortion and negligible crackling.
CONS:
1. Not to beat a dead horse, but the necessity to hold or
lay the unit somewhere while in use becomes annoying
after you've dropped it a few times, especially since
the unit costs a penny shy of $100.
2a. The car-lighter adapter to this unit is HORRIBLE. The
casing of the wire weathers quickly and becomes brittle
after only a few months of use, especially if you store
the unit in your car as I did. I noticed stress cracks
in the wire and the shiny copper conductor wire inside
made an appearance after only 3 months of use/storage.
2b. The car-lighter adapter is poorly designed insofar as
the fuse is contained in the metal nipple of the car-
lighter adapter and often becomes loose. The metal
nipple and fuse, on several occasions have fallen out
of the jack and into the lighter unit of my car causing
sparks to fly. I blew fuses on three separate
occasions using this unit in my car. Moreover,
retrieval of the runaway components is hazardous at
best and often, in the interest of safety, requires
you to unhook your car battery before attempting to
retrieve the displaced pieces from your lighter port.
Overall, the Aiwa XP-570 Personal CD Player receives high marks in terms of sound and delivery, headphones included. However, the car lighter adapter is poorly designed and more trouble than it's worth. Do not hesitate to purchase this unit as a personal, hand-held unit, however, a replacement for an automotive CD unit it is not.
