I was looking for a a DVD with lots of features and a reasonable price. I found it in the Pioneer DV-603! It plays dvd, video dvd,cd, cd-r (recordable) and cd-rw (record and rewrite).
I have a cd burner and I wanted a DVD/cd player that would play music I recorded. The DV-603 plays them all. My old cd player was a single tray, the DV-603 has a 5 disc changer which is great for a party, just load up 5 cd, set the player for random and you have hours of music. Many DVD films have two disc now, the film and a documentary about the film, with the DV-603 you can have them both in the tray without getting up to change them. Even if you leave a DVD in the tray the DV-603 can skip over the DVD and play cds. Sound feactures include Dolby Digital, DTS 5 channel sound.
The DV-603 has progressive scan which is similar to a non-interlaced computer monitor. It reduces flicker, but this only matters with a HDTV. If you don't have a HDTV, at this price, $250 at BJ's its worth getting, and who knows you may upgrade in a few years and the DV-603 will be ready.
The back of DV-603 has video and audio out jack, s-video out (for higher quality viewing) components video out for progressive scan, control in(to control another component) and digital out coaxial or optical out (the latest fiber optics connection!)
Another useful feature includes VNR or video noise reduction. If you play a rented DVD or Video Cd that's been beat up, this feature can filter out some of the damage. I also found it important clean rented DVDs with a cleaning kit, this will improve the viewing and keep your DVD player clean.
While the remote buttons are small, it is packed with features, it can control your television, set-up a screen saver for your tv, change camera angle on DVD's which have this feature, parental lock, and memorize up to 5 DVD settings. I also get a kick out of language codes, I counted over 120 language sub-titles. You can watch sub-titles from Abkhazian to Zulu!
