I have waited for over a year for the right MP3 player to come along. And of all places it comes from Intel! Anyhow, I have used my friends MP3 players for a while. My main beef with them has been either not enough memory ( or ridiculously expensive memory cards), lousy software, poor transfer speeds, and a poor unit design. It looks like someone at Intel practically read my mind.
Out of the box it is a snap to install the software. It automatically seeks out MP3 files on your computer, or you can tell it where specifically to look. It took my MP3 files right out of my Napster download files and transferred them. The USB transfer to the player is simple, and quick. The 128 MB of memory is enough for me to keep 2 hours of music, about 30 of my favorite songs on the player. Removing and editing songs is brainless.
The unit itself is small, small, small. It weighs almost nothing. The functions are so intuitive that I did not even bother with the tutorial loaded onto the player. The LCD screen displays your songs, what is playing, and the functions menu. A small flywheel on the side of the unit lets you scroll through the menu and the songs. It has a sequential and random play mode with bookmarking available. The screen is easy to read.
The first time I used it was while running, and I did not have to look down at all to control the unit. A lock button is provided to keep you from accidentally changing a setting while running or working out.
Sound is excellent. The headphones are comfortable. You can control the sound settings also.
The only gripe I have is the Intel logo prominently displayed on the player and the headphones. Hopefully it will rub off.
