Pros: Great features/modes, high resolution, color fidelity, excellent metering
Cons: Size is larger than film P&S, battery life is zapped way too quickly
The Bottom Line: Bottom line: Recommended at a good/sale price

| allm_rose's Full Review: JVC GC-QX3U Digital Camera |
I got my camera from the discount rack at a substantially reduced price. I am a professional photographer, but had not delved into digital photography. I bought this for casual, family kind of shooting, and it does that job fairly well.
The resolution is great, colors faithful rendered with excellent contrast and saturation. The noise reduction and dynamic range modes are not novelties--they work--and there are no other digital cameras that I know of that have these excellent features. The later mode take two, quick pictures, one balanced for highlights, the other for shadows (tripod or stable surface needed). Excellent.
However, the on/off mode dial is easily left or knocked into a power on position, and the battery will drain itself in nothing flat. Even if carefully monitored, and depending on how much flash and LCD panel usage, the battery will be depleted VERY quickly. I've been stranded with a dead battery several times.
Smartmedia is cheap and easy to get--just check out www.newegg.com for 64MB cards @ $27.
