Pros: Quality large images, medium size
Cons: Self-defeating thumb scroll power/mode button kills battery regularly
The Bottom Line: It's not the camera - it's the power dial that turns itself on that makes this camera a waste of money.

| rhartigan's Full Review: JVC GC-QX3U Digital Camera |
I have used this camera for over 6 months now in all situations, from snowboarding, to hiking, to kayaking. Overall, this JVC camera takes reliably stunning images. Shots pointed directly toward the sun or with bright sun behind a cloud will wash out if you're not careful. Now for the big gripe - the mode/power thumb dial on this camera has to be redesigned. To turn the camera on and off, you need to use two hands, one thumb holding down a button the size of a pinhead, and the other turning the dial. That's all fine and good, but this difficult dial will manage to turn the unit on, no matter how you transport the camera. Over 50% of my experiences with this camera have ended in the battery being dead because it came on in the case, in my pocket, or wherever I have it. This problem can only be "solved" by carrying the battery separately, and installing it when you want to take a photo. This is not handy, and in some situations, is not possible. I've had some great JVC products over the years, but this one problem is inexcusable on an item of this fairly high cost. I hope the designers are back at the drawing board on this one.
