| zcast's Full Review: Kenwood VR-4080B Receiver |
Okay, so I had been keeping an eye on this receiver for quite some time now. It's a 2000 model, and they are starting to sell dirt cheap. This unit is a step below the 4090, with only having 3 digital inputs and 1 digital output. First off, if you can afford the 4090, go for that first. Anyway, I can go on about all the goods about the unit, but lets touch on the bads. Well, the manual is very general. They don't get into detail AT ALL. The remote is great though. The FM transmitter allows for long-range functionability. There is a delay though with communication from the receiver to the remote. It's because the remote displays information about what the reciever is doing, and the remote cannot process as fast as the receiver can. Also, this unit is BIG. It wouldn't fit in my Entertainment Center, so I have to get a new one now. The speaker terminals are very, very close together, so I would highly reccomend banana clips. I haven't had a chance to throw a decent surround system up to it yet, but with my 2 floor fronts on a SONY DVD player with VES, the imaging sounds great. The receiver also automatically switches with it's detected input (analog/digital) which is great for switching from movies to music. I wish it had a dual room /dual source option on it, but its a mute point. All in all, the receiver kicks movies and music. And what once was a 1000 dollar unit, you can find for under 400 bucks......don't miss out.
