The Bottom Line: This is a great unit. While the programming interface will scare some, it resolves the multiple remote control issue. In the long-run, you'll be happy you purchased this unit.

| dal5159's Full Review: Philips TSU2000 LCD Touchscreen Remote Control |
This is one unbelievable unit! The Philips TSU2000 programmable remote control is unlike any other multi-remote on the market! It combines the multiple remote control technology with a graphic-display touch-screen technology.
Setup of this unit will depend greatly on two items:
1. Whether or not your devices are already integrated into its memory.
2. Your ability to program macros.
First, I'll talk about the available devices. During setup, the menu options will present themselves in an easy-to-understand order. However, you are bound to come across an item of yours that is not on the setup list. However, fear not! You can do the following things so that this unit will learn your remote:
A. The ability to learn the remote can be performed as simple as placing the remote controls face-to-face. Then, press a few buttons on both remotes (the steps vary). With any luck, your unit's remote codes will work.
B. If that fails, most codes can be found at http://www.remotecentral.com. In here, there is a forum for the TSU2000. You will find most codes here.
The problem is that you have to learn its software in order to download the remote code(s) to your unit. If I can suggest one item here... BACK UP YOUR CURRENT CONFIGURATION ANY TIME THAT YOU WILL ADD A NEW REMOTE CODE!!
Lastly, there is an issue (as I see it) with attempting to operate multiple devices at once. Using my home theater setup as an example, let's say that I want to view a DVD movie and have the sound go through my souped-up sound system. In order to do this, I have to do the following:
A. Turn on the TV.
B. Turn on the receiver/amplifier.
C. Set the receiver/amplifier to DVD.
D. Turn on the DVD Player.
E. Use my DVD's jog dial to select my movie.
These steps take three remotes to accomplish. Because of this, I purchased the TSU2000. While I can do all of these features with one remote control now, I found that I have to switch through the menus quite often.
There is a way to resolve this; program specialized macro codes. Being new to programming macros, I found it difficult to do. But, it was all worth it when I finished. I now press one button on the remote control to perform all of the previously mentioned steps.
