| emaxsaun's Full Review: Coby CX-CD333 Personal CD Player |
I bought the CX-CD333 after my old one (an RCA) broke down, and I needed a decent CD Player for a cheap price. I looked at all the stores, but couldn't find one that fit in my price range. Finally I found a COBY in my local drug store for $35.00. It said that it had 40 seconds anti-skip so I figured that it would be a good player for its value. Man, I was ever wrong. The first thing I noticed about the CD player was its skip protection, no CD is scratch free, and while my CDs that were new never skipped when put into the player, the ones that only had slight scratches on them skipped like crazy, and I had to turn the anti skip off to play them better. The next thing was the battery life. It takes 2 AA batteries, and I remember one time I had a 4 hour car ride, so I put new batteries in it, and by the end of the ride the CD player was dead. Not to mention that when the CD player's LCD blinks "low battery" on it, the CD’s skip more, which is not good. The sound wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either, it was the best part about the CD player though. The worst thing was the construction. It was very cheaply made, and it showed. The end of the line for me was when I opened the CD player one time and the spring in the back of the unit that opens the top popped out, whenever I opened the CD player I would have to use two hands instead of one, and to keep the top on steady I would have to string a rubber band around it to keep it closed tight. If I could give this 1/2* I would but * is the lowest rating. Avoid at all costs and avoid COBY products, period. The name COBY just screams out, "we are a Sony rip-off with cheap products." It really was a waste of $35, when I should have waited and saved up $15 more to buy a decent SONY CD player.
