Well, here is where I come from...
As an ancient amateur photographer (and pro photo gear salesman and later, mini-lab set-up and installation specialist, and so on...), I have always regarded K25 as a true gem, a unique and faithful image media.
But, as anyone, I had to have a family and started shooting color prints of the kids instead of wandering about the streets and country-side with one body loaded with Tri-x an another one with K25. I even, over a 20 year period, almost forgot about the magic of that film.
Recently, freshly divorced with adult children, I decided to taste again of photography. I went digital and was very excited about it, but, you know, shutter lag and low resolution under 1000$ and all, made me think of going back to "shooting film".
This is where the two previous reviews comme into play. Discontinued?!?!? I am ashamed. Had I kept on using that film that maybe, it would still be available.
Everything they say about it is true but for one thing. Quality, yes, 5/5 if not 6/5, but ease of use as low as 3/5 is not real. Of course, the film is not very forgiving just as much as light meters are not intelligent.
I remember going to the zoo with only my F2 pentaprism (not photomic), my Vivitar 55mm f2.8 macro 1:1 and the small Kodak silver covered photo guide. You know, the "cloudy bright" and "open shade" exposure sh__t?
To date, these two yellow boxes containing 72 perfectly exposed slides are the testimony to my understanding of light and shade. Only K25 could have given me the proof of my solid grasp on photography, in true to life colors, exact and sharp images that I can enjoy today as if I were there again.
Learning that they have discontinued that film is like comming 20 minutes late to your mother's death bed.
