| artcfartc's Full Review: Sony CMT-RB5 Shelf System |
I bought this micro system for my home office. I didn't want one of those boomboxes that look like it was designed by Nike or Adidas, I wanted something that looked like it belonged in an office. I also wanted the remote so I could turn down the volume or change the station or CD track without getting up from my desk. The power wasn't important to me (the office isn't that big) and I didn't want to spend any more than necessary. Nor did I want a cassette player, since I purged myself of those annoying tapes years ago. The Sony CMT-RB5 fit my needs perfectly. It has a nice minimal design and produces quality although slightly mediated sound. The remote is full function, at least for my purposes, although it took me awhile to get used to the placement of the control buttons (I suppose they're not layed out the way I would have arranged them had I been the designer). One thing that rather puzzles me: the 6 control buttons on the face of the unit (not the remote) look like they should be rear-lit, but they aren't (unless my unit is defective). And they're pretty darn hard to read without any backlighting. But I only use the remote anyway, so that's not really a problem for me. When my 30-year-old co-worker saw, and heard, the system, as well as what I had paid for it, he said he thought he'd get one for himself as his primary sound system. All in all, it fits my needs perfectly.
