Pros: Size, looks, sound, CD-Text
Cons: No backlighting on remote or deck.
The Bottom Line: All in all, I enjoy this unit very much and I highly recommend it for any application requiring something small, and pleasing to listen to.

This item is a nice little piece, it performs very well and has a nice clear sound which is easy to listen to. It is pleasing on the ears and doesn't distort.
My primary use of this unit is for my bedroom, where i have it placed directly behind me as i drift off. It produces a nicely detailed, clean sound which is perfect for relaxing and just disappearing from the concerns of the day.
I hadn't thought about it when I purchased it, but this thing is also pretty handy to have when it comes to snuggling up to someone special. I've always found my huge home theater to be a little overbearing for quiet, intimate times, but this little unit keeps it nice and subdued.....perfect for romantic moods.
This unit also looks classy and unassuming. It's a welcome break from the blinking lights and ugly plastic to be found on the glorified boom boxes that are often passed off as microsystems. The only drawback for me (owing to my application in the bedroom) is there is no backlighting for either the remote or the main unit. This wouldn't be a problem in an office or small living room, so I wouldn't call it too big of a deal.
This unit includes CD-Text, which in my opinion should be included on all CD players in this day and age. Why every other manufacturer has been overlooking the convenience of this feature has baffled me lately. I just love seeing the names of the tracks I'm playing.
I find this feature most useful on cd's that I have copied from friends because it eliminates the need to write down all the track titles. Now when copying a cd with Easy CD Creator, I just download the cd track info and click the little box that says "write cd text info" when I hit record. My little Sony reads this info without any problems, allowing me to know what I am listeing to. (And hey it's still just plain cool and appeals to the kid in me. We all have our vices)
There is no tape deck which for me is a plus. Tapes are really just crap anyway and I only ever use them to record lectures at school. As far as I am concerned having no tape deck saves me space.
The tuner performs well and is easily programmable.
There are two inputs, one optical digital and one stereo rca. You might want to connect a computer or maybe a vcr.
The features are fairly easy to operate and setup is rather simple. There is a clock and alarm function which might be of use to you. Bass and treble controls, and that's about it. There isn't a lot of crap that you will never use but pay extra money for. Sony seems to have invested their costs more into quality than frivolous features and obnoxious blinking lights.
And just in case you want to sleep and not waste electricity, there's a handy little sleep function which can turn the unit off as soon as your cd finishes. Sweet dreams.
