Pros: Great sound, high definition, good features, terrific universal remote
Cons: Not durable enough, should operate longer with no flaws
The Bottom Line: Get product insurance for at least three years if you buy this unit. Things go bad with no warning.

| robinsonband's Full Review: Onkyo TX-DS595 5.1 Channels Receiver |
Because this unit was on sale and came with a universal remote, I opted for the Onkyo over my preferred brand, Harmon Kardon. Also, Onkyo has a great reputation, and I recommended their receivers to two former girlfriends for whom HK gear was too pricey.
Though the units sounds great and has excellent features and a terrific universal remote, it is not durable enough and seems poorly made. About a year or 18 months after buying the unit, the AV receiver's CD input ports went bad. Gear by this brand and in this price range should be far more durable and long lasting.
We had a workaround and used another input for one of our players. At first that was fine but now that we have a full home theater system, we really need that input.
But worse than that, the standby button recently broke, meaning you can't use the remote to turn the unit on. Of course we can do this manually with the power button but it's a hassle for my wife and kids who are used to using the remote. Also, the thought of disconnecting all our components so we can put this in the shop is overwhelming, and then there's the drag of having no home theater for any where from two days to two weeks.
