Pros: Pictures and sound are just as good as most consumer/prosumer digital camcorders.
Cons: This model does not have a MIC input or a Firewire port.
The Bottom Line: Recommend the TRV68 to everyone from beginner to seasoned pro. The images and sound are great, you have a lot of features to play with and the camera is bullet-proof.

| modelmatrix's Full Review: Sony Handycam CCD-TRV68 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder |
I've used Sony Handicams since they first appeared in the mid 80's. I've gone through several Sony camcorders and they have ALWAYS been high quality, low maintenance cameras with great resolution, that perform above and beyond my expectations. In fact, none of my Sony's have ever given me a bit of trouble, they usually walk away (assisted by covetous would-be videographers).
I was 'given' my Sony TRV68 by a 20-something year old girl who didn't want it anymore because it wasn't a "digital" camcorder. It had been neglected; collecting dust, rubber eyepiece missing and the AC power adapter was long lost. It still had a slight charge on the stock NP-F330 battery and I was able to put it through all it's various functions before it died completely. Everything worked and that was all I needed to know.
The TRV68 comes equipped with Night Shot (that eerie, green "Paris Hilton in the backseat" feel), SteadiShot (for people with Parkinsons' or for when you really reach out and touch someone with the 460x digital zoom) and, it has a built-in video light for those times when you need just a little extra light (but use it sparingly).
The swing-out and reversible color LCD allows you to shoot at different angles other than from eye level and the zoom control is sensitive enough to do a slow, barely moving crawling zoom to INSTANTLY counting the number of pores in your subjects face.
It has a lot of other features like, fade, mosaic, sepia... but the ones I like and use most often are the black-n-white filter and shooting in the 16:9 widescreen format.
The spec sheet I downloaded states the unit gives 400 lines of resoultion. Broadcast TV specs are 500+ so you're really not THAT far off and the untrained eye can't tell the difference anyway, so who cares if this is an older model? I use the slight "grit" in the image as another color on the palette and as long as I can get the shots I need and the sound levels are good, I'll use this camera until it either falls apart (not very likely) or it also grows legs and goes to join its brethren at the Den of Thieves.
