Pros: Looks cool, Sounds good, Self-Hiding, Color Changing...PHAT
Cons: nothing serious that i can think of
I picked up this CD unit before i even bought my car about a year ago, actually in the summer of 2001. I really liked the fact that you can set the background to just about any color you wanted and you can have it constantly change colors. Also when you burn files from mp3s on it it will read out the text of the name... and scroll it...for instance if the file name is Eminem- Business...it will scroll that the whole time ...or at least that is one of the options. I saw it in a store and liked the way it looked with the colors changing and all. Also i liked the fact that it is a detachable faceplate but unlike a lot of faceplates this one hides itself when you turn the car off. So basically it looks like you do not even have a cd unit until you turn the car on. I swear to god that when i got this installed at Tweeter i sat down into the passenger seat and i remember thinking "is this it" because i really didn't see the unit all i saw was the black panel which matched my interior perfectly. So I turned the ignition key and out it came..."wow" i said. And believe me when i say that i have gotten many complements on how cool it is that it just comes out of nowhere when you turn the car on. I use my car to drive people around for my work often, and it impresses a lot of people :) Someone said it is a James Bond Style Cd player or something :) Anyways...you can also have the button colors set in either red or green. Sound-wise i don't have any complaints...While this is not the highest end CD player that you can get if you want incredible sound, this one totally does the job and has a few preset modes like Jazz, Rock, Soft, etc...along with a User defined mode where you can tweek the bass, treble and midrange any way you like...personally that is what i preffer. I have read reviews where people claim that kenwood stereos have some problems in the winter or something...I personally did not come across any of these, and out of the year that i have had this for i must say that the single problem that i had with the unit was when the faceplate would not rotate when the car was turned on. And after i repeated the process it was fine. This occured once and it was not in the winter so i would not attribute it to the cold or anything, i have no idea why this happened but it has not happened since and it was not a big deal to begin with since it fixed itself immedeatly. I paid 225 dollars for this unit on ebay in the summer of 2001. Now i think you can pick them up there for about 180 or so. I think this is a great first cd unit and while it is not the highest quality sounding unit, although in my opinion the quality increased tremendously over the stock unit in my Nissan Maxima, it does the job just fine and wont break the bank unlike some of the other head units which have amazing graphics and are mp3 compatible and such. It has some really cool features which for the price can't be beat. I suggest you give this CD player a try especially if you dont want to spend too much money on one but still would like to impress you friends! OH Yes, i almost forgot this unit looks AWESOME in the night when everything is dark, I Have it set in the mode where the colors are constantly changing and it looks REALLY PHAT!
