After my original radio/cassette (No CD) in my 1996 BMW 328i went "Ka-Blaupunkt", I started shopping around for a replacement w/cd that would come close to matching my dashboard array and colors. As I do a lot of traveling, I also wanted a unit with weatherband capabilities. From intensive internet "Google-ing", I came up with this wonderful Kenwood!

It is not the "top of the line" unit, but it runs all eight of my original factory speakers with a sound that comes close to an expensive home unit. There is a feature that allows you to switch sound modes from preset Top 40, Pops, Jazz etc. or you can mix your own and it is listed as "User". You can also scan the modes at a touch to select the best mix for what you are listening. As usual, you can also memory pre-set the buttons for stations. The face and button colors can also be changed via Kenwood's "Shockwave" feature to better match your dashboard array, or you can let it change colors at random for kinda like a "psychedelic" effect that brings back memories of the '60s to this old hippy!
For great security, it has a detachable face (with carrying case), but I find that redundant as the face is motorized and revolves to a blank when the car is turned off. You can also enter a security code for added safety. I also added the weatherband accessory (WCB-100) for $60 to get those much needed advisories. It also will run a multi-disc changer, plays cd-r's and cd-rw's, and comes with a handy-dandy ??? remote control! (Salesman said better to get french fry grease on the remote than on the dash unit, haha!)
As for the sound, my parents are dismayed that their Mark Levinson $2000 stereo package in their new Lexus can't come close, sorry Mom and Dad! This unit is definitely a keeper!
I paid $290 for the unit + $60 for the W/B and $45 for installation. I just wish I had ripped out the Bimmer's radio and replaced it with a Kenwood from the beginning! One last note for novices like me, it only took me about 10 minutes to read the manual and figure out how to work all the feature's!
