| riggy's Full Review: Motorola Talkabout® T6220 (14 Channels) Two W... |
I've been looking for a decent FRS radio for a while and finally settled on the T6220 because 1) It’s a Motorola and everyone I know has an FRS owns a Motorola. 2) It's currently the highest featured FRS before their more expensive T6300 line.
This radio has a lot of useful features that you may or may not need but nothing that I would say are useless. But it has all of the essential features I was looking for: extra eliminator codes, scrambling channels and vibrating alert. Plus it looks good. Unlike other brands which don't even attempt to make their radio look good.
Mine came with a charger base, and belt clip for under $70 US. Which is cheaper than the T289's. This is interesting because the T289's are a year older and have fewer features. I've never used a T289 but from the reviews I've read they appear to be very good radios also.
Overall the T6220's work great and IMHO are a safe pick because of Motorola's reliability and if you know a lot of people with FRS's chances are they are Motorola’s too so you won't have to worry if channel 1 on your FRS is the same on your friends. The only problem I have is that sometimes it's awkward to press some of the smaller buttons but when a radio is that small I suppose it comes with the territory.
