| DBJS's Full Review: Motorola Talkabout® T6220 (14 Channels) Two W... |
I recently had the desire to purchase a 2-way radio so I decided to check out Epinions to see what would be a good brand to choose from since there are so many on the market today. Motorola seemed to be the popular choice so I narrowed my choices down to the Motorola 6220 and the 6310. I ended up purchasing both the 6220 and the 6310 so I could do my own real comparisons. I decided to keep the 6220 because it was very small and had lots of features for the price (when compared to the 6310 which I will write a review on later). Some of the features were:
* NOAA whether broadcast
* 14 channels with 38 security codes
* Voice Scrambler and privacy features
* A "Roger" beep
* Auto Power Off
* Multiple Call Alert Tones -10 in all
* Scan Mode
* Weather Resistant
* Very User Friendly Menu
* Ring or Vibrate alerts
In use, the sound quality was very clear and the unit had the feel of a well made product. The Motorola 6200 and 6300 series have a feature called QuieT6000 which prevents other radio signals from disturbing your conversations. It also has a scramble feature that prevents other listeners from eavesdropping in on your conversations. The NOAA weather broadcast feature can be set up to automatically announce when there is a warning issued. The menu is very user friendly and can even be set to a "Simplier Menu" mode. The only complaints that I have are with the page and scan buttons. The are sort of suppressed. I guess this was done to keep users from accidentally pressing these buttons. But at the same time, it makes pressing these buttons a little tough. The price of the units wasn't cheap. One 6220 goes for about $70 but I was able to purchase an open box model for $40. But if your budget cautious, you can buy 2 Motorola T5200 or FR60's for the price of one 6220. Price wasn't too big of a concern for me because I like "Bells and Whistles" in my gadgets. I struggled between the The 6310 and the 6220. The 6310 model was very nice and it had all the "Bells and Whistles" that I like. The problem arose when it came to accessing all those features. The menu system is cumbersome (You may want to see my review on the 6310 if your considering purchasing one).
