Pros: DVD & VCR combo is a great idea!
Cons: DVD player skips
The Bottom Line: Not good for dvd playing. VCR was fine. I wouldn't recommend the product.

I bought this at Costco after reading good reviews of the product. I really liked that it was a dvd & vcr combo, which takes up less space and less cables. The remote had this great feature that if my young children touched the face of the player, nothing would work for them; you had to use the remote, which we kept up high.
Anyway, it played the vcr tapes wonderfully and the picture and sound showed no problems. The dvd's are another story. At first (approximately 20 movies in full play), the movies played out well. Then when putting the dvd in, it would play only the previews and bring me to the menu, and not play the movie when I selected that function. I tried both the remote and the face of the player to get it to work. It just would not play the movie. I tried another dvd, a brand new one, and it skipped as it played. But, the dvd's played fine on my other high-end dvd player. My definition of "skip" is the picture would stop intermittently, but the sound would play or sometimes the sound would be intermittent as well.
Since we are moving in with dvd's and out with vcr tapes, this product is not satisfactory. And, I gave it a good try. Six months later, I brought the player back to Costco to return it. They took it back without the original box and credited my mastercard. They have great customer service.
