| rsbsl's Full Review: Soyo DVR4000 DVD Player / VCR Combo |
I paid $299 for this in September 2001, just before Sensory Science (manufacturer of GoVideo products) released the next generation of their dual function DVD/VHS player... and for considerably less. For the high price, this has been a huge disappointment!
The DVD player often skips tracks (movie scenes) on DVD's that are fine and play just fine in my $89 DVD player in the other room.
The VCR has constantly fluttered since the machine was about 3 months old, just after it went out of warranty.
The remote is very difficult to use for the DVD, for example if you want to fast forward in a DVD, the button on the remote makes the player skip to the next section. This is due to a design fault. The directions say you have to press and hold to activate the fast forward function, while at the same time, a quick press of the same button activates the skip track feature. On top of it all, the little button is less than the size of a baby's fingernail. How crummy is that?
Utterly frustrating.
This component seems to be cheaply manufactured and poorly designed. It seems to give more problems (more small malfunctions) as the months go on. But it's not much more than a year old! My uncle had also received a GoVideo DVD/VCR as a trial offer from his DVD club and he returned it within 2 weeks for many of the same reasons. It was good to hear that this was not only my experience with this product, and it reaffirmed in my mind that it is a hunk of junk.
I can say without hesitation that I will NEVER ever buy another GoVideo product and would not even give one to my worst enemy! I have forced myself to try and live with it because I paid so much for it (the best price I could find at the time) but when I do buy a replacement (soon) I plan to destroy this with a sledge hammer!
