DVR4000 not worth it

I had this product 4 months and the VCR part broke. I worked great until the VCR part broke. It would play a VCR tape but the counter would not work, the picture was fine for like 5 seconds and the tracking would go off then it would be a good picture again than it would go back to a bad picture. This would happen until I took the tape out. The DVD part was fine.
The customer service is terrible. I had taken the unit to a Go Video service shop and they told me that the part was unrepairable. I called up to tell them that and ask what I should do. They told me I needed a receipt but since this was a gift they could not help me. I told them you don't get a gift and tell the person who gave the gift to you "thanks for the gift. Give me the receipt." So after explaining this to them they still said there was nothing they can do for me. It was their policy. I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor told me to fax them the receipt from the repair shop. Than he said to look on the back to see when the product was manufactured and he saw that it was manufactured less than a year ago. Then they said that I could send in the unit and they would replace it. So I spent $20 to send it to them. That was the cheapest way. Plus the $10 to have the repair shop look at it. All of this for their product to break less than 4 months. I called them back to find out when they were going to send it. They gave me a run around for like 4 phone calls. They told me 3 times that they would call back and they only called once. I checked the tracking on the unit that I sent back. The tracking said that someone signed for it. I called them after I found out that they signed for it and the customer service guy said he can't find the unit I sent to them. Than they said that the new unit they were supposed to send me was on back order. This after they said the would send it that day and call me back in 7 hours. They never called back. I called them on a Wednesday and they said that they haven't sent me the new one yet. Then I called them the next day and I asked for the tracking number. I checked the tracking and it said that it was sent on Tuesday and they said they would send me an upgrade. Then they sent me the same model. Go figure.
