Pros: cheap storage, crisp clear beautiful photos
Cons: high price, learning curve, disk write time
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this camera. Non-proprietary, cheap media, solid feel, excellent photo quality, and a wide variety of exposure controls from manual to automatic make this camera a real winner!

| tonyrsmith's Full Review: Sony Mavica MVC-CD300 Digital Camera |
When I finally decided that I would break down and get a digital camera, I had to some decision making to do. I first decided that I was going to get a 3+ megapixel camera because I wasn't impressed with the 2 megapixel camera picture qualities. Next I had to decide on a brand. I mainly looked at Nikon and Sony. Nikon because of their reputation in the camera industry and Sony because of their reputation with electronics in general and the ease of getting their products serviced should something go wrong. There is literally a Sony authorized service dealer in every town in America. Next I had to decide on media. This is one of the areas I have a problem with Sony about. I HATE proprietary stuff! The fact that Sony uses their proprietary Memory Sticks was a big strike against them and nearly the deciding factor for me to go with Nikon. Then Sony came out with the MVC-CD300 and saved the day! CD/CDRW media instead of memory sticks! I bought the camera and couldn't be happier! The pictures it takes are beautiful! It is truly as good as 35mm film. Some people might find the camera bulky and slightly heavy, but I find that it gives the feel of a 35mm SLR. There is a learning curve to the camera. It has a ton of options, everything from manual to fully automatic just like an expensive SLR. Reading the wordy manual (something most people, including myself, don't like to do) is an absolute must or you won't have a prayer of operating the camera. Once you figure it out though it is very intuitive. The LCD screen instead of a traditional view finder takes a little getting used to but once you do it is actually accurate and easy to use. If it is still not to your liking, Sony does offer an optical view finder that connects to the back of the camera. If you don't mind the size and aren't looking for a camera with the ability to take "back to back" photos, I highly recommend this camera!
