Pros: Size, Weight, Sound.
Cons: Lack of any interesting options, Price.
The Bottom Line: The tradeoff of $50 and an awesome feature for a few grams in weight and millimeters in size aren't really worth it.

| PenguinQX's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-E900 Personal MiniDisc Player |
As the top of the line MZ-Exx series MD player from Sony, I expected much more from than what I got. Granted there was nothing wrong quality-wise with the player, but for such a high price in stores (i got mine off ebay), I would have thought that there'd be a few more options to twiddle with. Essentially, all of Sony's MD players (excluding MDLP) are the same. They all have the following:
- 2 level bass
- ALVS
- Repeat/Random track playing modes
- Remote
This is just about all you really need, but considering that this is supposed to be Sony's BEST MD player, you'd think that they'd throw in a few more goodies.
The E90 was $50 more expensive than my MZ-E75 MD player, yet it didn't have the ability to adjust and save bass and treble settings. I had found this to be one of the best options to have on an MD player.
The E90 has a boring square design with unexceptional silver paint. My E75 has eye catching reflective paint that changes colors at different angles.
This leads me to question the Sony's pricing of their MD players. The ONLY advantages this MD player has over my old MZ-E75 is about 20 grams in weight, 8 hrs in battery life, the including of a Nickel-Hydride battery instead of NiCad, and a few millimeters in size.
OK, enough with the comparisons to the E75. Let's take a look at what the E90 has to offer.
First off, the body construction of this player is solid and sturdy feeling. The metal is extremely light yet strong. It does not dent easily.
The battery life is long! 22-24 hrs with just the stick battery, and 56 hrs total with an additional AA battery which attached in a somewhat bulky attachment. Using the battery pack for the AA really kills the point of getting the E90, since its main features are its size and weight! The E90 comes with an AC Adapter and a Nickel Hydride battery. The Nickel Hydride battery accounts for a good deal of the E90's price, since these batteries are much more expensive than Nickel Cadium rechargeables. However, NiHydrides retain their charge much better, last longer, and do not have a memory effect.
The backlit remote is a bit long in size, but it's light in weight. It can control every function of the MD player aside from AVLS and bass. The backlit screen is very clear.
The earbuds that come with the player are light have good sound quality. Their oversize shape makes them fit nice and snug into your ear.
I must recommend and give this MD player high marks due to its excellent sound quality, skip protection, and backlit remote. Track speed is fast and the player is very quiet.
Be aware however, that almost all Sony MD players, and MD players in general fit this description at much lower costs.
Prices continue to drop as Sony releases its new MDLP MD players.
