| schafercorp's Full Review: Panasonic DVD-RP91 DVD Player |
Mine is the Gold version. I bought it new, but not when it came out. This player, I at first keept back due to cost, and did not use alot, but with time, it became an obvious choice for traditional CRT TVs. This is where it excels best. Now with UPconvert technology and HDTV, the newer Panasonic DVD-S97 is what the current fashion is.
However for most TVs and Component connections this player has all the now commone Panasonic options to adjust picture quality, and it did it all very well. This one looks like what it cost, and is rock solid, compared to newer players.
Used by Pros as a testing standard, it still remains so today.
Most people who tested it when new wrote favorable reviews. I too have found it a constant performer. There is much already written about the tech specs, and the point at this time, is this still a player to buy. Well when it arrived it cost around 1,000.00 now one can find these around 150.00 plus or minus. It also comes in black which might be a better bet, though this Gold was different than other companies and actually looks impressive. While I am a huge fan of Panasonic this and the DVD-RP56 are two of the best they ever made. While the RP56 lacks all of the adjustments available here, flat out the picture is on the same level.
Looking at this today compared to a DVD-S47 which hit at 99.00 the two are very similar, both impressive, and I called the S47 a best buy. Looking at this in it's day it was ahead of it's time. And still a considerable player. I have seen very few not working for sale, and they seem to be highly reliable, mine is.
Simply put in this case, if you want to own one of the very best DVD players ever made, this is your chance at a bargain. Prices always drop in technology and items become dated, however years after this player was made it remains a solid performer and current with most technology. I was impressed when I bought it, and remain so. No problems what so ever.
Sharpness, contrast, the list is huge, and many things an average person gets lost with, but fun nevertheless to play around with, and you can see differences in the picture.
I would say if you purchase one you will be very pleased.
