| halamtx's Full Review: Sony Walkman WM-EX615 Personal Cassette Player |
First of all let me say that I bought my walkman for 19.99 instead of the list price because it was an open box product. For what I paid for it is the best walkman I've ever had. I certainly wouldn't have paid $85 for it though because it doesn't even have a radio.
The design was the first reason I was drawn to this product. The player itself is very sleek and thinner than a normal walkman. Many people who've seen it mistook it for a minidisk player because of the size. The case itself is fully metal. The cassette is accessed by sliding a button sideways on the side. The button controls for the unit are hidden in the W logo on the side of the player. There's also a hold button that can prevent you from hitting any of the controls accedentally.
On the whole it has a very well-made, durable feel.
The walkman has a remote control on the headphones cable that can can clip onto things. I use it to clip to my shirt while listening to audiobooks in the car. The easy access remote makes it very easy to control without looking or fumbling for the tape player.
Some of the nice features of the controls are that the walkman will flip to the other side of the tape without you having to open and flip the cassette manually. The remote display will tell you which side you are listening to. The FF and REW will automatically scan to the next song or chaper and stop. It will also ff through silent portions of the tape and replay a selected song.
It comes with a slim rechargable battery that last for about 44 hours of play. It takes about 3 hours to charge. The duration of the battery is really great for long trips. The down side is there really isn't warning if the battery is going to die.
There's no belt clip which makes it difficult to attach to yourself if you're jogging. I tried puting in a pocket while running, but since it's made of metal, it's like jogging with a weight in you shorts. It comes with a nylon drawstring pouch, but it's really just for protecting the walkman. This limits my use of it to plane trips, car trips, or stationary workout machines.
I think in summary, it's a very, very nice tape player, but that's all it does. It was a steal for $19.99 but you shouldn't get it for $85 because it's hard to work out with and there's not built in radio.
