This is a GREAT overall HU with all the features of a truly top of the line HU's (head unit's)
This is an amazing HU (the best of the digifine series, in my opinion). I didn't particularly like JVC in the past, but I got a great deal on this one so I figured I'd give it a try. I was AMAZED at all the extras this thing has. The only problem I have is getting to the features, the menu system is fairly hard to navigate. It doesn't detract greatly from the overall functionality, but it does bother you. It takes a good half hour and the manual to get it set up lik you like it. This could be viewed as a "Pro" to some people, but I'd rather do my settings on the fly in real world situations, not just my quiet driveway.
The feature I like the most is the line input, with the eq getting an honorable mention. The line input gives you infinite sources to use. Whether it be TV, MP3, or something else, it doesn't limit you to just radio and cd's. This is a feature that should be included on ALL HU's just because it gives the unit unlimited expansion capability. The EQ is also a great feature. It is perfect if you don't have an outboard EQ and with the retention of the bass/treble controls, you can tailor your music just how you like it.
There are too many features to list here, but all of them are functional. All except the bass boost feature. It doesn't seem to boost just the low frequencies, but the lower midbass also. This is TERRIBLE when listening to a male voice on the radio. With all the amps that have internal bass boost I recommend this function be turned off during normal operation.
As for the SQ... It's EXCELLENT!!! I love the clarity and definition of this HU, it rivals Alpine. Clear through the entire spectrum, just like I like it. It's a pleasure to listen to.
The multi-angle motorized face is a pretty good feature, but you will most likely just leave it in one place all the time after playing with it for a couple days. Great if you have a sunny car and can't see normal displays, just hit the button and the angle changes.
The button layout is pretty standard, nothing out of the ordinary. I like the push in/out volume control. I've always been impartial to knobs, but liked the look of buttons. This is the best of both worlds. The buttons are a little to small for my big hands, but are manageable. I sometimes hit two buttons at the same time. This is almost always a problem (it's also a problem for typing).
I got this for only $230, so it was an AMAZING DEAL. If you can get this HU for under $250 you should jump on it. You might be able to find the "top of the line" digifine for $300, so that would be to much for this one. I actually don't think the "top of the line" digifine is worth the extra money.
Would get excellent, but the small buttons and hard to navigate menus take away just enough so that it doesn't get 5 stars.
